ECAE Launches Horizons Programme To Empower Teachers With AI Technology For Enhanced Learning
The Emirates College for Advanced Education (ECAE) has introduced the Horizons programme to equip Ministry of Education teachers with artificial intelligence (AI) skills. This initiative aims to ensure AI's effective, ethical, and sustainable use in classrooms. Launched during ECAE’s participation in GITEX Global 2025 at the Abu Dhabi Government Pavilion, it aligns with the UAE’s vision for a future-ready education system.
In its initial phase, the programme will train 5,000 teachers across the nation. This marks the first initiative of its kind in the UAE. It draws on both international and national frameworks, including UNESCO’s AI Competency Framework for Teachers and the National Educators’ Competency Framework (NECF).

The programme emphasises seven key areas of AI within the national curriculum. These include foundational concepts, data and algorithms, software applications, ethical awareness, innovation and design, policy engagement, and real-world implementation. This comprehensive approach ensures that educators are well-prepared to integrate AI into their teaching practices.
Sulaiman Al Kaabi, Executive Director of the Student Wellbeing Sector at the Ministry of Education, stated that this programme is part of ongoing efforts to enhance educators’ capabilities in AI fundamentals and applications. "The programme fosters an innovative and sustainable learning environment that supports the UAE’s knowledge economy," he said.
The Horizons programme consists of five workshops totalling 20 hours. These cover AI-powered teaching practices, inclusive learning design, ethical school policies, and sustainable institutional innovation. The training includes practical sessions and interactive exercises based on international educational models like the Holt and Harris Pedagogical Model for AI in Learning.
Dr May Laith Al Taee, Vice Chancellor of ECAE, highlighted that the Horizons programme reflects the college’s mission to empower teachers to harness AI responsibly. "It reinforces Emirati values of ethical technology use and advances the nation’s leadership in AI-driven education," she noted.
Commitment to Sustainable Development
The initiative underscores ECAE’s commitment to preparing the UAE’s education system for an AI-driven era. It supports national objectives to integrate advanced technologies into teaching and learning for sustainable development. By focusing on these goals, ECAE aims to ensure that educators are equipped with necessary skills for future challenges.
This comprehensive approach not only enhances teachers' understanding but also prepares them to implement AI effectively in classrooms. The programme's alignment with global standards ensures that educators are ready to contribute positively to a rapidly evolving educational landscape.
