Eastern Region Teams Up With THE RIG For Groundbreaking Tourism Project

Dammam, SPA—In a significant move towards enhancing the tourism and entertainment landscape of Saudi Arabia, the Eastern Region witnessed a landmark agreement on Sunday. Governor of the Eastern Region, Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, presided over the signing ceremony between the Principality of Eastern Region and THE RIG, a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund (PIF). This collaboration aims to bring to life the THERIG project, a venture set to redefine marine activities and establish a unique tourism and entertainment hub.

The comprehensive investment agreement outlines plans for constructing, developing, operating, and maintaining a multifaceted tourist and visitor station. This includes a marina for yachts and seaplanes, helipads, and an array of supporting activities designed to bolster the project. Touted as the world’s first tourist destination inspired by offshore oil platforms in the Arabian Gulf, THERIG project stands out for its innovative approach to tourism.

At the heart of this ambitious project is an offshore platform located in the Arabian Gulf near Al Juraid Island. The development will feature hotels, amusement parks, water sports facilities, various adventures, and stations equipped with visitor services. With three hotels and eleven restaurants planned for the platform itself, the project promises a blend of luxury and adventure.

This initiative is not just about leisure and entertainment; it represents a strategic move towards achieving Saudi Vision 2030’s objectives. By raising the quality of life and fostering economic diversification, the project aligns with national goals. The Eastern Region has already shown its potential by leading in foreign investment attraction, further highlighted by a recent SAR18 billion investment package announced by Governor Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz.
