Eastern Region Governor Inaugurates 6th UNESCO International Conference On Learning Cities In Jubail
Governor of the Eastern Region, Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, will open the sixth International Conference on Learning Cities (ICLC 6) on Monday. This event is under the patronage of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The conference, organised by UNESCO's Global Network of Learning Cities, will be held in Jubail Industrial City from December 2 to 5.
The Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu recently hosted a press conference to highlight the objectives and main themes of ICLC 6. Isabell Kempf, Director of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, attended this event. The conference aims to showcase Jubail's readiness and its role in education and sustainable development.

Prof. Fadye Al Fayad, general supervisor of the conference committees, stated that selecting Jubail as the host city underscores its leading position in education and sustainability. He noted that Jubail has become a global model for lifelong learning and connecting education with environmental sustainability efforts.
Al Fayad emphasised that this milestone aligns with the Royal Commission's vision to develop innovative educational cities supporting environmental growth and improving quality of life. He highlighted that Jubail and Yanbu's inclusion in UNESCO's Global Network of Learning Cities adds prestige to the event.
The conference provides an opportunity to highlight the royal commissions' efforts in creating cities that serve as global role models in education and sustainable development. Al Fayad stressed the importance of building a sustainable environment that integrates innovation and prosperity for residents, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030 goals.
Kempf expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia and the Royal Commission for hosting ICLC 6 in Jubail. She mentioned that this venue allows for exchanging expertise with other cities worldwide. The conference will focus on how cities can tackle climate change challenges while achieving goals set by the Paris climate agreement.
