Eastern Region Governor Inaugurates International Forum On Advancing Carbon Neutrality And Energy Solutions

The international forum "Powering the Future Toward Net Zero" was inaugurated by Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Region. Organised by the Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), this two-day event gathered global energy leaders and officials. Deputy Governor Prince Saud bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz also attended.

Prince Saud highlighted the commitment of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud's government, supported by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, to the electrical interconnection project. He noted that less than a year ago, a Gulf electrical interconnection with Iraq was launched. The forum's participation from global energy experts and regional organisations aims to address energy supply and environmental challenges.

Governor Launches Forum on Carbon Neutrality

During his speech, Prince Saud stressed that achieving net zero is a shared goal requiring collaborative efforts. He stated, "Everyone views net zero as a fundamental goal, and achieving this requires joint efforts to advance electrical systems across all countries, incorporate modern technologies, boost investments in renewable energy sources, and enhance energy consumption efficiency." This highlights the importance of modernising electrical systems and investing in renewable resources.

Eng. Mohsin Al-Hadhrami, Chairman of GCCIA, emphasised that the forum tackles significant issues affecting both regional and global futures. He mentioned that current energy sector challenges demand strategic collaboration for innovative and sustainable solutions. These efforts are crucial for advancing the energy sector and supporting broader developmental goals.

The forum serves as a platform for discussing strategies to overcome obstacles in the energy sector. It aims to foster cooperation among countries to improve electrical systems and promote renewable energy investments.
