EAD Introduces Comprehensive Regulation For Environmental Emergency Preparedness In Abu Dhabi
The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has introduced a regulation to enhance environmental emergency readiness in Abu Dhabi. This new rule allows the Agency to act swiftly during potential environmental crises, reducing their effects and ensuring proactive protection through established procedures.
Under this regulation, EAD can classify facilities based on environmental risks, review their emergency plans, and set standards for preparedness. The regulation also requires entities to have trained personnel and robust response plans to prevent emergencies from their operations.

This regulation is part of EAD's framework for assessment, licensing, enforcement, and inspection. It ensures strict oversight of environmental activities while providing measures to counter or mitigate emergencies. The regulation applies to all licensed facilities in Abu Dhabi that may cause pollution affecting ecosystems or air quality.
Developed under Law No. 16 of 2005 concerning EAD's reorganisation, the regulation governs entities whose activities might lead to environmental emergencies. It aims to minimise impacts on marine or terrestrial ecosystems and air quality.
The regulation mandates EAD to conduct workshops on emergency response plan development and implementation. Simulations of various emergencies will be held to improve the preparedness of facilities. Entities must take preventive measures against potential emergencies resulting from their activities.
EAD will implement the regulation across the emirate with strategic partners using a systematic approach. This step strengthens the legislative framework for environmental licensing and enforcement while leveraging systems to mitigate risks.
Commitment to Environmental Protection
The issuance of this regulation is crucial in addressing possible impacts from developmental or industrial activities. It reinforces EAD's commitment to preserving the environment by ensuring that all necessary precautions are taken against potential emergencies.
The Agency emphasised its dedication to implementing these requirements throughout Abu Dhabi, coordinating with partners for a structured execution. This initiative marks significant progress in safeguarding the emirate's environment through legislative measures.
