EAD's Advanced Marine Research Vessel Jaywun Wins Prestigious Best Large Research Vessel Award For 2023

The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has announced a significant achievement. Its marine research vessel, Jaywun, has been awarded the Best Large Research Vessel for 2023 by Baird Maritime. This marks the first time a vessel from the Middle East has received this honour. The award recognises excellence in design, construction, and functionality.

Ahmed Al Hashmi, Executive Director of EAD's Terrestrial and Marine Biodiversity Sector, expressed pride in Jaywun's recognition. "For Jaywun to be recognised in a country as far as Australia as the Best Large Research Vessel for 2023 by Baird Maritime confirms that our efforts and reputation have reached beyond the borders of the UAE," he stated. This accolade highlights Abu Dhabi's commitment to marine research.

Jaywun Wins Best Large Research Vessel Award

The Work Boat World Best Vessel awards evaluate vessels based on several criteria. These include quality, innovation, reliability, utility, economy, sustainability, and style. Each participant underwent a thorough review process throughout 2023 before winners were chosen.

Jaywun's advanced technology and equipment set it apart from other vessels globally. Al Hashmi noted that its innovative features make it unique in the region. He emphasised EAD's dedication to sharing expertise in oceanography and marine research.

Neil Baird, Founder of Baird Maritime, praised Jaywun's design and versatility. "The impressively well-equipped and very versatile Jaywun has been impeccably built to serve the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi for many years," he said. The vessel's hydrodynamic design ensures economic operation and long-range capabilities.

Baird highlighted Jaywun's adaptability to various environments. It is designed for local, regional, and international operations under challenging conditions. The ship is suitable for both the Arabian Gulf's hot waters and the deeper Gulf of Oman.
