EAD Delegation Explores Waste Recycling And Water Management Practices In Singapore

A team led by Dr. Shaikha Salem Al-Dhaheri, Secretary General of the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD), recently visited Singapore. The purpose was to exchange knowledge and showcase best practices while learning about Singapore's initiatives in waste management, water resource management, and sustainable urban development. The EAD team observed Singapore's success in using nature-based solutions for biodiversity conservation.

During their visit, the delegation met with representatives from Singapore’s Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI) and the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment (MSE). They also engaged with the National Environment Agency (NEA). These meetings provided insights into Singapore's strategies for reducing carbon emissions and adapting to climate change impacts.

EAD Visits Singapore for Environmental Insights

Dr. Shaikha Al Dhaheri emphasised the importance of strategic partnerships in environmental stewardship. She stated, "We believe in the power of strategic partnerships to drive our environmental stewardship. At EAD, we forge strong collaborations with regional and international partners to amplify our collective impact, as we strive to maximise the benefits for both people and the environment, while solidifying Abu Dhabi to be one of the leading global environmental hubs."

The delegation explored Singapore's integrated approach to urban planning and environmental management. This approach addresses the challenge of balancing urban development with environmental considerations. The team also examined Singapore's research and innovation ecosystem, which is driven by its leading academic institutions.

The EAD delegation focused on understanding Singapore’s National Water Agency (PUB) practices. They explored innovative water resource management strategies such as desalination, water recycling, and conservation efforts. These strategies are part of an integrated approach to managing water resources effectively.

Renewable energy investments were a key topic during discussions with Singapore’s energy stakeholders. The importance of accelerating energy transition through renewable sources was highlighted alongside waste reduction and recycling efforts. The delegation gained valuable insights into these areas during their meetings.

Nature-Based Solutions for Biodiversity Conservation

The EAD team benefitted from examining how Singapore uses nature-based solutions to conserve biodiversity. This approach helps address core environmental challenges effectively. By sharing best practices with public and commercial sector stakeholders in Singapore, EAD aims to enhance its own strategies back home.

The visit provided an opportunity for EAD to learn from Singapore's pioneering initiatives while sharing its own successful practices. Such exchanges are vital for fostering collaboration between nations committed to sustainable development goals.
