EAHS Awards 'Mazyoun Al Awsaf' To Top Named Arabian Horses In Abu Dhabi
The Emirates Arabian Horse Society (EAHS) recently celebrated the achievements of local Purebred Arabian Horses born in 2024 in the UAE, by awarding the "Mazyoun Al Awsaf award" for the most beautifully named colts and fillies. This prestigious event took place at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center – ADNEC, where the winners were announced amidst much anticipation.
The award, a collaboration between the EAHS and the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center, seeks to promote the Arabic language and encourage horse breeders and owners to choose authentic Arabic names for their horses. It draws inspiration from the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's passion for Arabian horses and his dedication to preserving Arabic heritage and language.
Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, alongside Mohamed Ahmed Al Harbi, Director-General of the EAHS, presented awards to the top three winners in both the colts and fillies categories. The filly named "m. o. Alhus" clinched first place, earning owner Mohamed Hamad Khalaf Ali Al Otaiba a golden shield and AED50,000. The name symbolizes the swift pace of a running horse and is also reminiscent of a pearl's luster.
Second place was awarded to "Noud," owned by Mohamed Hamad Al Mansoori, who received a silver shield and AED30,000. The name represents a lofty place or valley. The bronze shield and AED20,000 went to "Nouf," owned by Aalyan Saeed Al Hajeri, with her name signifying the peak of a large mountain or a high hump.
In the colts category, "Wahaj Al shara" owned by Mohamed Salem Al Shamsi took home the gold along with AED50,000. His name translates to radiant and glowing. The silver shield and AED30,000 were awarded to "Bareq Babel," owned by Hekmat Hussein Al Shareif, with a name meaning shining sword and alluding to speed and light. "Al Aghar," securing third place for owner Haitham Mohamed Al Kindi, received a bronze shield and AED20,000; his name denotes generosity and honor.
Additionally, during this significant event, an MoU was signed between the EAHS and the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre. This agreement, endorsed by Dr. Ali bin Tamim and Mohamed Al Harbi, aims to strengthen cooperation in promoting Arabic language and heritage through initiatives like the "Mazyoun Al Awsaf award."
This collaboration not only highlights the importance of cultural preservation but also celebrates the rich heritage associated with Arabian horses in the UAE. Through such endeavors, both organizations hope to inspire future generations to continue valuing their linguistic and cultural roots.
