E& UAE Redefines 5G Connectivity With Innovative Testing Of 6 GHz And 600 MHz Spectrum Bands

e& UAE has conducted groundbreaking tests on the 6 GHz and 600 MHz spectrum bands, recently allocated by the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) for International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT). These tests achieved impressive speeds of up to 10 Gbps using 6 GHz, alongside a seamless integration with other FR1 TDD bands through commercial-grade Customer Premises Equipment (CPE). The 600 MHz band demonstrated its capability to extend 5G coverage beyond 6 km.

These advancements mark a significant milestone in enhancing 5G connectivity within the UAE. They promise substantial benefits for homes, businesses, and the nation's digital economy. Marwan Bin Shakar, Acting Chief Technology Officer at e& UAE, stated: "Our customers rely on us for fast, dependable connectivity, and these tests show how we are shaping the future of 5G wireless in the UAE. By achieving 10 Gbps with 6 GHz being a key driver and 5G coverage beyond 6 km on 600 MHz with commercial equipment, we are not just setting technical benchmarks—we are paving the way for 5G-Advanced, the future of 6G, and a smarter, more connected UAE."

e& UAE Enhances 5G with New Spectrum Tests

For e&’s customers who already enjoy gigabit fibre speeds, these tests pave the way for advanced wireless connectivity. The 6 GHz band facilitates seamless streaming of 8K UHD content, rapid downloads, and smooth virtual reality experiences. Meanwhile, the 600 MHz band ensures reliable coverage in both densely populated urban areas and remote locations. With extended coverage beyond six kilometres, users can expect uninterrupted service for work, entertainment, and communication.

The integration of commercial CPE into real-world deployment allows e& UAE to fully harness these spectrum bands' potential. This initiative strengthens the UAE's position as a leader in next-generation wireless technology. By combining C-band with the new spectrum allocations of 6 GHz and 600 MHz, e& UAE is establishing a robust and future-ready ecosystem for 5G services.

Businesses stand to gain significantly from these developments as well. The ultra-fast broadband capabilities of the 6 GHz band support cloud workflows, IoT applications, and AI-driven analytics. Meanwhile, the broad coverage provided by the 600 MHz band is ideal for industrial IoT deployments and smart city applications. This combination offers enterprises increased agility and scalability while enhancing operational efficiency.

The TDRA's allocation of spectrum for 2024 positions the UAE at the forefront of global advancements in mobile technology. The extensive bandwidth offered by the 6 GHz band supports high-capacity urban connectivity. In contrast, the wide-reaching coverage of the 600 MHz band ensures deep indoor penetration. These improvements will accelerate smart city initiatives and industrial automation across the nation.

Economic Impact of Mid-Band Spectrum

A study by GSMA Intelligence predicts that by 2030, mid-band spectrum will be crucial in driving economic growth globally. It is expected to contribute over US$610 billion to global GDP by then. Notably, mid-band spectrum like that used in these tests will account for nearly two-thirds of this economic value generated by mobile technology.

Global forecasts indicate that mid- and low-band spectrums such as those tested will also positively impact local economies like that of the UAE. e& UAE's collaboration with TDRA highlights how these frequencies can deliver high-speed data transmission while providing extensive coverage—laying groundwork not only for advanced fifth-generation networks but also paving paths towards sixth-generation technologies.

This strategic approach to spectrum allocation underscores its importance in maximising socio-economic benefits derived from mobile technologies worldwide while ensuring sustainable growth within local markets like those found throughout Middle Eastern regions such as United Arab Emirates itself.
