Dune: Part Two Celebrated By Stars And Director In Abu Dhabi's Liwa Desert

Following the Middle East premiere of "Dune: Part Two," celebrated filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, alongside stars Josh Brolin and Dave Bautista, was spotted amidst the majestic backdrop of Abu Dhabi's Liwa desert, standing next to a giant sandworm. This spectacle was a highlight of the emirate's festivities, celebrating Villeneuve's latest adaptation of Frank Herbert's seminal 1965 novel. The Liwa desert, known for its vast and sweeping sand dunes, once again serves as the setting for the iconic desert planet Arrakis in both the six-time Academy Award-winning "Dune" (2021) and its sequel, "Dune: Part Two."

Arrakis is notorious for its colossal, highly territorial sandworms, which play a pivotal role in the narrative. These creatures, attracted by the vibrations caused by footfalls on the sand or machinery like Spice Harvesters, are integral to the planet's lore. The filming of "Dune: Part Two" saw an extensive production setup across nearly 20 locations within the Liwa desert during winter 2022. A massive team comprising 300 local and 250 international crew members, along with 500 extras, was mobilized for a 27-day shoot to bring this cinematic vision to life.

The eagerly awaited "Dune: Part Two," directed by Villeneuve and co-written with Jon Spaihts, is produced by a team including Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Patrick McCormick, Villeneuve himself, and Tanya Lapointe. The film promises to be an epic continuation of the Dune saga, captivating audiences across the Middle East with its immersive storytelling and breathtaking visuals. Fans in the UAE and Lebanon can mark their calendars for the premiere on 29th February 2024, while other regional markets will have to wait until 11th April for their chance to experience the adventure. Additionally, special preview screenings will be available in markets outside the UAE and Lebanon from 29th February to 6th March 2024 before its wider release.
