Dubai Claims Top Spot In Arab World For Maritime Excellence, Ranks 11th Worldwide
Dubai has once again demonstrated its prominence as a global maritime center, achieving the highest ranking in the Arab world and securing the 11th position worldwide in the 2024 Leading Maritime Cities (LMC) report. This marks an advancement of two places from its previous ranking in 2022. The report, unveiled in Singapore by DNV and Menon Economics, acknowledges Dubai's significant contributions to the maritime sector.
The LMC report for 2024 attributes Dubai's improved ranking to its performance across five critical areas: shipping centers, maritime technology, ports and logistics, as well as its attractiveness and competitiveness, including financial and legal aspects. Notably, Dubai's commitment to green technology within the maritime sector was also highlighted.
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), expressed his pride in this achievement. He credited the success to the Dubai Maritime Authority (DMA) within PCFC for enhancing Dubai's position on the global maritime map. The leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and the support from His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum were acknowledged as pivotal to Dubai's successes.
Bin Sulayem emphasized the role of strategic plans and initiatives led by the DMA in boosting the maritime sector's competitiveness. He highlighted the efforts of specialized teams within PCFC and appreciated the collaboration with global maritime hubs that contributed to this milestone.
Dr. Sheikh Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al-Maktoum, Executive Director of the DMA, reiterated the Authority's dedication to innovation in logistics programs. He stressed the importance of adhering to safety standards, environmental practices, and regulations to maintain Dubai's leadership position.
"This is a clear indication of the effectiveness and efficiency of Dubai Maritime Authority's comprehensive development strategy," he stated. The achievements in the LMC index underscore Dubai's economic attractiveness and its role as a secure and stable global hub with strengths in security, technology, financial matters, and green technology.
In addition to its LMC ranking, Dubai leads Arab maritime capitals and showcases its strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing its global standing in this crucial sector. Meanwhile, Singapore retains its position as the leading maritime city globally for 2024.
Dubai's ascent in the global maritime rankings reflects its ongoing commitment to excellence and innovation in a sector that is vital not only for its economy but also for establishing new benchmarks in sustainable and competitive maritime practices.
