Dubai's Taxi Sector Marks A Significant Increase With 500,000 Additional Trips In H1 2024
The taxi sector in Dubai saw a significant rise in activity during the first half of 2024. There were 55.7 million journeys, up from 55.3 million in the same period last year. Passenger numbers also increased, reaching 96.9 million compared to 96.2 million previously.
The number of drivers in the industry grew from 26,000 to 30,000. Additionally, the total number of taxis operating reached 12,778, which is an increase of 644 vehicles compared to the same period in 2023.

Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at the Public Transport Agency of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), commented on this growth. "The transportation industry has consistently grown over the last five years. This rise in the number of journeys, drivers and vehicles directly responds to the increasing demand for the service, ensuring that customers' needs are met."
E-hail services like Hala Taxi have significantly contributed to this growth. E-bookings made up 40 percent of all taxi journeys in Dubai during the first half of this year, a 5 percent increase from last year. Furthermore, 76 percent of Hala journeys had an average vehicle arrival time of less than 3.5 minutes during this period, surpassing last year's rate of 73 percent.
Shakri highlighted these improvements: "Comparing the recorded figures and percentages for the sector in the first half of this year indicates positive results, demonstrating RTA’s commitment to developing its digital infrastructure and providing innovative services that improve customer service and satisfaction."
Economic and Digital Growth
These advancements contribute to Dubai's economic and digital growth, reinforcing its status as a global hub for investment and tourism. The continuous improvements in efficiency and response speed reflect RTA's dedication to meeting customer needs effectively.
"The sector is achieving record growth through the e-hail service of Hala Taxi," Shakri added. "Such results contribute to the economic and digital growth witnessed by the emirate, which has established its position as a global destination for investment and tourism."
The data underscores RTA's efforts to enhance its services continually. The increase in trips, passengers, drivers, and vehicles highlights a robust response to rising demand while ensuring customer satisfaction remains high.
Overall, these developments indicate a thriving taxi sector in Dubai with promising future prospects driven by technological advancements and strategic planning by RTA.
