Dubai Implements Significant Changes To Taxi Fares: What You Need to Know
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced new fare structures for taxi bookings made through smart apps. These changes, effective from November 6, affect the minimum fare and booking fees during peak, off-peak, and night hours. The revised fares apply only to e-hailed trips and not to taxis hailed on the street.
From Monday to Thursday, peak hours are from 8am to 9.59am and 4pm to 7.59pm. During these times, the flagfall is set at Dh5, with a booking fee of Dh7.50. Off-peak hours include 6am to 7.59am and 10am to 3.59pm, where the flagfall remains Dh5 but the booking fee drops to Dh4.
Night-time fares are applicable from 10pm until 5.59am. In this period, the flagfall increases slightly to Dh5.50, while the booking fee is Dh4.50.
Friday Fare Adjustments
On Fridays, peak-hour fares are in effect from 8am until 9.59am and again from 4pm until 9.59pm. During these times, a flagfall of Dh5 applies alongside a booking fee of Dh7.50. From 10pm until midnight, the flagfall rises to Dh5.50 with the same booking fee of Dh7.50.
Off-peak hours on Fridays run from 6am until 7.59am and then from 10am until 3.59pm, with a flagfall of Dh5 and a reduced booking fee of Dh4.
Weekend Rates: Saturday and Sunday
Saturdays and Sundays have their own fare structure as well. Peak-hour charges apply between 4pm and 9.59pm with a flagfall of Dh5 and a booking fee of Dh7.50; however, between 10pm and midnight, the flagfall increases to Dh5.50 while maintaining the same booking fee.
During off-peak hours on weekends—6am to 7.59am, then again from 8am to 9.59am and finally from 10am to 3.59pm—the flagfall is set at Dh5 with a lower booking fee of Dh4.
The night-hour rates for Saturdays and Sundays are consistent with other days: from midnight until just before dawn at 5:59 am, where a flagfall of Dh5.50 applies along with a booking fee of Dh4.50.
Minimum Fare Increase
The minimum fare for e-hailing taxis has been adjusted upwards by one dirham—from Dhs12 previously—to Dhs13 now when using apps like Careem for bookings.
This change reflects an overall increase in costs associated with app-based taxi services in Dubai as announced by RTA officials recently.
