Sheikh Maktoum Chairs Dubai's Supreme Legislation Committee Meeting For 2024 Strategy
H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, recently chaired the Supreme Legislation Committee's (SLC) inaugural meeting for 2024. During this session, he was updated on the SLC's accomplishments throughout 2023 and introduced to the strategic plan set for 2024-2029. This new strategy is designed to foster a forward-thinking and innovative legislative framework that supports Dubai's ambitions for sustainable development and aims to enhance its global legislative standing.
Sheikh Maktoum praised the SLC for its pivotal role in developing legislation that bolsters Dubai's growth trajectory. He emphasized the importance of crafting robust laws that ensure safety, adapt to rapid changes, and are in harmony with the UAE's constitution as well as local laws. The SLC reported significant achievements in 2023, including the completion of 190 local and 114 federal legislative pieces, alongside finalizing 35 international treaties and agreements. Additionally, it processed 72 requests for legal advice and opinions.

The committee's Legislative Audit Directorate was also active, issuing 59 audit reports and collaborating on 59 pieces of implementing legislation with various government bodies. Efforts to enhance legal awareness were evident through initiatives like the Dubai Legislation Portal and Official Gazette, as well as through hosting panel discussions, training sessions, and workshops aimed at bolstering legal research skills and professional development among legal practitioners.
Among its notable projects in 2023 was the Innovation Plan and the launch of the Dubai Digital Legislation Platform. Looking ahead, the SLC's five-year strategy is set to cultivate an environment conducive to innovation within the legislative sector. This includes improving legislation quality, raising legislative awareness, and boosting legislative consultancy services. The strategy also focuses on upskilling personnel, advancing digital capabilities, and preparing for future challenges.
This ambitious plan aligns with both the Dubai Economic Agenda and Dubai Social Agenda, aiming to position Dubai as a prime destination for investment, a leader in digital and sustainable economic practices, and a model for an effective social system. Through these initiatives, the SLC seeks to meet the aspirations of Dubai's community and contribute significantly to its economic, social, and cultural fabric.
