Dubai Supreme Council Of Energy Reviews Strategies To Reduce Carbon Emissions And Achieve Sustainability Goals

The 90th meeting of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) was chaired by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum. This virtual meeting included key figures such as Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the council, and Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary-General. Other attendees were Marwan bin Ghalita from Dubai Municipality, Abdulla bin Kalban from Emirates Global Aluminium, Hussain Sultan Lootah from ENOC, Juan-Pablo Freile from Dubai Petroleum and DUSUP, and Muna Alosaimi from RTA.

The council's discussions centred on Dubai's strategic goals to monitor and reduce carbon emissions. These efforts align with the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. The DSCE approved the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory for 2024 during this session. Additionally, they confirmed the winners of the 2025 Emirates Energy Award, which recognises outstanding practices in energy efficiency and sustainability.

Dubai Council Reviews Carbon Emissions Strategies

Al Tayer emphasised their commitment to supporting sustainability initiatives. "Our goal is to support the sustainability road map and achieve the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 to provide 100 percent of the emirate’s energy production capacity from clean sources by 2050," he stated. He highlighted adopting advanced technologies to enhance resource efficiency in line with UAE's national strategies.

Two significant regulatory frameworks for petroleum product trading in Dubai were also approved by the council. The Safety Policy in Petroleum Products Trade Policy aims to uphold high standards of health, safety, and environmental protection. Meanwhile, the Regulatory Framework for Petroleum Products Trade seeks to improve transparency and compliance within the sector.

Al Muhairbi noted that these frameworks are crucial for comprehensive governance mechanisms in petroleum trading. They are designed to boost transparency and efficiency while ensuring compliance with industry standards. These measures reflect a broader effort to align with sustainable development goals within Dubai's energy sector.

The meeting underscored a commitment to innovative projects that promote renewable energy use across the region. By recognising achievements through awards like the Emirates Energy Award, DSCE encourages continued advancement in energy practices that contribute positively to environmental goals.

Dubai's strategic focus remains on achieving its clean energy targets by 2050 through concerted efforts across various sectors. The DSCE continues to play a pivotal role in steering these initiatives towards a sustainable future for the emirate.
