Dubai Supreme Council Of Energy Advances Green Economy Agenda With New Regulations
H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, led the 87th meeting of the Council. This virtual meeting included Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman, and other key members like Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary-General, and Marwan bin Ghalita, Acting Director-General of Dubai Municipality.
The gathering focused on advancing Dubai's sustainability goals and maintaining its leadership in energy innovation. The Emirate aims to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. The Council discussed updates to Dubai's Green Building regulations, which are crucial for reducing carbon emissions through improved energy and water efficiency in new constructions.

A significant topic was the regulatory framework for petroleum product trade. Executive Council Resolution No. 16 of 2019 established a committee to regulate this trade in Dubai. This initiative has improved safety protocols, risk management, and compliance among distributors.
Al Tayer highlighted Dubai’s dedication to sustainability: "In line with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, we promote Dubai's transformation into a net-zero economy. The Committee for Regulating the Trading of Petroleum Products and the updated Green Building regulations reflect our proactive approach to sustainable governance, ensuring that Dubai remains at the forefront of global green innovation."
Al Tayer also stated their aim to strengthen Dubai's role in global energy transformation by implementing the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. These strategies aim for 100% clean energy sources for the Emirate’s energy production by 2050.
Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi added that targeted action plans, specialised inspection teams, and robust regulatory frameworks are central to enhancing safety and sustainability. "Through targeted action plans, specialised inspection teams and strong regulatory frameworks, we consolidate Dubai's position as a national and regional model for energy governance. Our efforts are centred on enhancing safety, sustainability and ensuring long-term economic resilience," he said.
The meeting underscored the importance of these strategies in solidifying Dubai's leadership in energy governance both nationally and regionally. By focusing on long-term economic resilience alongside environmental goals, Dubai continues its proactive approach towards sustainable development.
