Sheikh Hamdan: Dubai Strengthens Position As Global AI Hub
Dubai is emerging as a global leader in the artificial intelligence (AI) arena, driven by innovative strategies and a thriving ecosystem of technology companies. The city's AI sector has seen exponential growth, with over 800 AI-focused companies establishing their base in Dubai.
This surge is largely attributed to the city's modern infrastructure, supportive regulations, and a vision to harness AI for future development, as stated by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Future Foundation.

The Crown Prince underscored the importance of AI in driving Dubai's innovative and growth-centric vision. He pointed out the critical role AI plays in transforming the future, following insights from a Dubai Center for Artificial Intelligence (DCAI) study. This research showed that Dubai hosts a significant number of AI companies, with two-thirds choosing the city for its conducive environment for testing and implementing AI technologies. A notable 72% of these are small and medium enterprises (SMEs) or startups, emphasizing the city's appeal to emerging businesses in the AI space.
Sheikh Hamdan emphasized the effectiveness of strategic initiatives and collaborations between the public and private sectors in bolstering Dubai's AI landscape. He highlighted how these efforts have attracted significant investments, fostering a vibrant environment for startups and global corporations to innovate and capitalize on AI opportunities. This strategic approach has solidified Dubai's status as a pioneer in adopting cutting-edge technologies.
The city's AI sector's dynamic growth reflects in the substantial increase in companies specializing in AI applications, software, and solutions. This development, detailed in a recent DCAI report, demonstrates Dubai's capacity to attract high-caliber AI enterprises, with almost half of these companies focusing on AI software creation. Moreover, these entities predominantly comprise SMEs and startups, showcasing Dubai's supportive ecosystem for nascent technology ventures.
Key to Dubai's AI strategy is the introduction of the 'Dubai Universal Blueprint for Artificial Intelligence' by Sheikh Hamdan in April 2024. This blueprint serves as a comprehensive guide for embedding AI across essential sectors, marking a significant step towards the city's technological transformation. Furthermore, the 'AI Retreat’ held in June 2024 has emerged as a critical platform for public and private sector experts to deliberate on AI's role in economic development and future shaping.
Advancing Dubai's commitment to AI, Sheikh Hamdan approved the appointment of 22 AI Chief Executives within the Dubai Government in June 2024. This move aims to deepen AI integration within government functions, enhance Dubai's AI capabilities, and reaffirm its position as a global tech hub. These appointments underline the city's proactive approach to leveraging AI for governance and service improvement.
Sheikh Hamdan's vision for Dubai as a future-driven city is evident in his statement, "Today, I reviewed a Dubai Center for Artificial Intelligence study which reveals that over 800 AI companies are thriving in Dubai. They have chosen Dubai as their base due to the city's advanced infrastructure, progressive regulations, and innovative services, all driven by the city's plan to accelerate AI adoption."
He further added, "As AI shapes the future, our success lies in making bold decisions and creating a business environment that fosters global excellence. Powered by national talent and global partnerships, Dubai stands at the forefront of technological transformation. The future is Dubai, and Dubai is the future."
The unveiling of the DCAI report at 'Area 2071’ in the Emirates Towers signifies Dubai's intent to lead in harnessing futuristic technologies. These strategic moves, combined with the establishment of a robust AI ecosystem, propel Dubai closer to its goal of becoming a global AI hub.
