Dubai Sports Sector Strategic Plan 2033 Aims To Attract Over 4 Million Visitors To Major Sporting Events

The Dubai Sports Sector Strategic Plan 2033, unveiled by H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, aims to elevate Dubai's sports sector. The plan seeks to increase the number of major sporting events hosted annually by 250, drawing over 4 million attendees each year. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance Dubai's global sports appeal.

Key elements of the plan include expanding sports facilities and centres, reinforcing Dubai's status as a premier destination for athletes worldwide. Sporting events are one of four main pillars, alongside clubs, talent development, and community engagement. The Dubai Sports Council will implement these objectives to position Dubai among the top-10 global sports cities.

Dubai's Sports Plan Targets 4 Million Visitors Annually

The strategic plan also focuses on boosting the economic and tourism impact of sporting events in Dubai. It aims to grow the sports economy by 80%, contributing AED 18.3 billion to Dubai’s GDP by 2033. This growth will be driven by increasing the number and quality of top-tier sporting events held in the city.

Khalfan Juma Belhoul, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, stated: "In line with the directives of H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Dubai Sports Council will develop and implement 19 key programmes and 75 different initiatives that will contribute to achieving our ambitious goals for Dubai’s sports sector in the coming phase."

Belhoul further noted that sporting events are central to their action plan. The upcoming phase will feature globally impactful events in popular sports, attracting top stars and teams from around the world. A highlight is the World Sports Summit in December, gathering sports stars and experts to shape future trends from Dubai.

The plan also aims to elevate existing successful championships like the Professional Football League (PFL), Dubai Marathon, Intercontinental Beach Soccer Cup, and other events in golf, equestrian sports, cricket, tennis, basketball, and rugby.

Infrastructure and Global Promotion

To support international sporting events, the plan includes upgrading infrastructure and improving accessibility. It leverages data, technology, and media while launching global tourism campaigns with Dubai Tourism. These efforts aim to boost sports tourism and enhance Dubai’s international brand presence as a leading sporting destination.

The ultimate goal is to open opportunities for sports investment and foster innovative projects and partnerships. By enhancing its infrastructure and promoting globally, Dubai seeks to solidify its reputation as a hub for major international sporting events.
