Dubai And Seoul Forge Strategic Partnership To Innovate Public Transport

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, marking a significant step towards enhancing cooperation in the public transport sector. This strategic partnership is set to explore development opportunities in autonomous driving, urban air mobility, and the utilization of related technologies. The MoU was signed by Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, and Oh Se-hoon, Mayor of Seoul, in a ceremony attended by officials from both entities.

The agreement underscores a mutual commitment to fostering a culture of collaboration that aims to elevate performance levels, streamline processes, and improve customer service. It establishes a general framework for partnership, ensuring mutual benefits through the exchange of technical knowledge, expertise, and information about their primary responsibilities and specializations.

Dubai-Seoul Innovate Public Transport

Al Tayer expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Seoul Metropolitan Government, highlighting the shared strategic objectives between RTA and Korean entities in transportation and mobility systems. "The potential for developing sustainable and innovative mass transit solutions, including express buses on dedicated lanes and electric buses, is immense," Al Tayer remarked. He emphasized RTA's dedication to enhancing strategic cooperation with Seoul to establish a solid foundation for joint efforts and experience sharing.

On his part, Oh Se-hoon shared his delight over the MoU with RTA, emphasizing Seoul's commitment to strengthening ties and fostering cooperation in technology transfer. "We are excited about the mutual benefits that will emerge from future mobility pilot projects," he said. Oh also extended an invitation to RTA to participate in the upcoming Seoul Smart Life Week scheduled from October 10th to 12th, aiming to deepen the exchange of transportation policies and strategies.

The partnership between RTA and the Seoul Metropolitan Government is poised to focus on public transport enhancements through field visits, joint participation in mobility events, and shared experiences. This collaboration will cover developments in bus rapid transit services, dedicated bus routes, shared mobility, Mobility as a Service (MaaS) concepts, taxi operation policies, electronic booking services management, big data analytics in urban mobility, integration of transportation systems, network planning and design, private sector engagement in transportation projects, and development of collection and payment methods.

Furthermore, the MoU facilitates the exchange of ideas on sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation policies. A particular emphasis will be placed on managing electric and hydrogen bus fleets and developing infrastructure for electric and hydrogen fueling stations. This comprehensive framework aims at benefiting both entities by enhancing bilateral cooperation in advancing public transport services.
