Dubai Welcomes A Record 3.67 Million Overnight Visitors In Early 2024

Dubai has once again demonstrated its allure as a global tourist destination, with a significant surge in overnight visitors in the first two months of 2024. The Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) unveiled figures showing an impressive 18 percent year-on-year increase, with 3.67 million tourists choosing the city for their overnight stays in January and February.

The DET's Tourism Performance Report for January-February 2024 highlighted that the city welcomed 1.77 million international visitors in January, with the number slightly rising to 1.9 million in February. This growth underscores Dubai's ongoing appeal and its successful strategies to attract global travelers.

Dubai's Early 2024 Visitor Boom

Europe emerged as the leading source of tourists during this period, contributing 773,000 visitors, which accounts for 21 percent of the total. South Asia followed closely with 604,000 visitors or 17 percent. The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries also played a significant role, bringing in 549,000 tourists, making up 15 percent of the total visitor count.

The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Eastern Europe were not far behind, with their combined visitor numbers reaching 530,000 or 14 percent. The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region contributed 448,000 visitors (12 percent), while North and Southeast Asia accounted for 340,000 visitors (9 percent). The Americas, Africa, and Australia brought in 240,000 (7 percent), 138,000 (4 percent), and 53,000 (1 percent) visitors respectively.

The report also shed light on the expansion of Dubai's hospitality sector. The number of available hotel rooms increased from 148,450 across 813 establishments in January-February 2023 to 151,269 across 826 establishments in the same period of 2024. This expansion reflects the city's readiness to accommodate the growing influx of tourists.

Moreover, the average occupancy rate saw a healthy growth of 3 percent year-on-year, settling at an impressive 87 percent. This indicates not only an increase in visitor numbers but also a robust demand for accommodation. Occupied room nights also saw an uptick, rising to 7.78 million from 7.28 million in the previous year. Additionally, tourists are staying longer, with the average length of stay reaching 3.8 nights in January-February 2024.

Dubai's sustained growth as a tourist hotspot is evident from these figures. The city continues to attract a diverse array of international visitors through its dynamic tourism offerings and world-class hospitality infrastructure. As Dubai moves forward, it remains a key player on the global tourism stage, consistently enhancing its appeal to international travelers.
