Dubai Science Park Marks Two Decades Of Supporting Research And Innovation

Dubai Science Park is marking 20 years as a key science hub in the Middle East, supporting research and development and the UAE’s knowledge-based economy. The district now hosts more than 90 laboratories and over 6,500 professionals, enabling regional and international organisations across life sciences, energy and environmental fields.

One of TECOM Group PJSC’s 10 specialised business districts, Dubai Science Park was created to advance scientific knowledge for societal benefit and strengthen Dubai’s global profile in science and research. According to Senior Vice President Marwan Abdulaziz Janahi, the district will keep attracting global businesses, nurturing talent and incubating innovation in line with Dubai Economic Agenda D33, the Dubai Research and Development Programme and We the UAE 2031.

Dubai Science Park marks two decades

Dubai Science Park’s tenant base spans several sectors. Leading life sciences companies such as AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Boston Scientific, Himalaya Wellness and ThermoFisher Scientific operate from the district. Organisations in fragrances and flavours, including DSM-Firmenich and IFF, run specialised centres, while energy science firms such as Clariant, Phoenix Contact and ExxonMobil address oil and gas, renewables and power generation.

Regulators are also working with Dubai Science Park to strengthen research and development outcomes. In August last year, the UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism signed a memorandum of understanding with the district to enhance cooperation on intellectual property and patent registration. The agreement provides legal and technical support and aims to accelerate patent applications for innovators and researchers across Dubai Science Park and other TECOM Group communities.

Infrastructure at Dubai Science Park is designed for laboratory, storage and collaboration needs. The district includes a LEED-certified laboratory complex and more than 330,000 square feet of storage and logistics space for global companies. It also hosts D/Quarters, TECOM Group’s co-working provider, offering flexible workspaces that appeal to collaboration-driven businesses and growing project teams.

Entrepreneurship is supported through in5 Science, launched in partnership with Dubai Science Park in 2023 as part of Dubai’s wider start-up incubator network. Notable ventures include Detectiome, which is developing a multicancer early detection test tailored to regional genetics, and RelphaCare, a healthtech company focused on reducing diagnostic and medication errors in clinical practice.

Dubai Science Park community, research and development links

Dubai Science Park promotes knowledge exchange through the DSP Leadership Network, a merit-based forum for senior professionals that encourages collaboration among industry leaders. The district also works with Dubai Knowledge Park and Dubai International Academic City to strengthen links between universities and employers, aligning academic programmes with research and development needs and creating a steady talent pipeline for companies based in the hub.

Dubai Science Park forms part of TECOM Group’s broader network of business districts, which support different segments of the knowledge economy. Together, these districts provide specialised environments for technology, media, design, manufacturing and education-focused organisations.

Across two decades, Dubai Science Park has evolved into a specialised base for companies and researchers working on life sciences, energy, environmental solutions and sustainable technologies. With established infrastructure, regulatory cooperation on intellectual property and access to TECOM Group’s wider innovation network, the district is positioned to keep supporting Dubai’s long-term science, research and development objectives.
