Dubai’s RTA Enhances Al Khail Road With Opening Of Two Major Bridges

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has inaugurated two significant bridges at Zaa’beel and Al Quoz 1 on Al Khail Road, heading towards Jebel Ali. These bridges, spanning a total of 1,350 metres, can handle approximately 8,000 vehicles per hour.

The Al Khail Road Development Project has reached an 80 percent completion rate. This project involves constructing bridges totalling 3,300 metres and widening lanes over a stretch of 6,820 metres. The improvements cover seven locations: Al Jaddaf, Business Bay, Zaa’beel, Meydan, Al Quoz 1, Ghadir Al Tair, and Jumeirah Village Circle.

New Bridges Open on Al Khail Road

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, stated that the project aligns with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. "Our goal is to accommodate the needs arising from urban development and population growth and to improve traffic flow," he said.

The project aims to cut travel time by 30 percent and increase the capacity of existing intersections and bridges by 19,600 vehicles per hour. It also seeks to enhance traffic efficiency on Al Khail Road by resolving traffic overlaps at flyovers and ensuring smooth traffic flow.

"Al Khail Road Development Project is a key strategic project aimed at developing parallel and supporting road corridors to Sheikh Zayed Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road," said Al Tayer. He added that Al Khail Road is a major arterial road in Dubai.

New Bridges Opened

The first bridge opened at Zaa’beel connects traffic from Zaa’beel Palace Street and Oud Metha Street to Al Khail Road towards Jebel Ali. This bridge is 700 metres long with three lanes and can handle 4,800 vehicles per hour.

The second bridge at Al Quoz 1 links traffic from Al Meydan Street to Al Khail Road towards Jebel Ali. This two-lane bridge extends for 650 metres with a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour.

Al Tayer highlighted that the project is guided by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's follow-up. "The project supports ongoing development in the emirate," he noted.

These enhancements are expected to significantly improve traffic conditions on one of Dubai's key roads. The RTA continues its efforts to develop infrastructure that meets the demands of urban growth in Dubai.
