Dubai RTA And Dubai Police Team Up To Enhance Traffic Incident Management

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in collaboration with Dubai Police General HQ has unveiled plans for a significant expansion of the Traffic Incident Management Unit project. By the close of 2024, the initiative will see the inclusion of four additional main road corridors, broadening its reach from 13 to 17 traffic corridors and streets. This development will stretch the total road coverage by the Unit to an impressive 951 km in both directions. The primary objective of this expansion is to reduce secondary accidents, improve traffic flow, and speed up the removal of vehicles involved in accidents.

Mattar Al Tayer, the Director General of RTA, highlighted that the project is designed to offer exceptional services to motorists. These include addressing vehicle breakdowns and efficiently managing accident scenes. The initiative also encompasses implementing temporary traffic diversions in nearby areas, assisting motorists, and providing traffic management support during events. Rapid response vehicles are strategically deployed on major highways and critical roads to ensure swift arrival at accident scenes, with a target response time of 10 minutes and a clearance time within 15 minutes.

Expanding Dubai's Traffic Safety

Earlier this year, six key corridors and streets were integrated into the project, expanding the total coverage to 13 corridors and streets. The forthcoming addition by year-end includes Ras Al Khor Street, Umm Suqeim Street, Expo Road, and Hessa Street. This expansion has significantly contributed to enhanced traffic safety in Dubai, evidenced by a notable reduction in traffic incidents resulting in injuries and fatalities. Moreover, it has improved the average travel time within the Central Business District.

The Traffic Incident Management service has delivered multiple benefits for Dubai's road users, notably in terms of safety and time savings by minimizing delays related to traffic accidents. The project has adeptly managed thousands of traffic incidents, including vehicle towing operations.

Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, remarked that this expansion reflects the strategic partnership between RTA and Dubai Police. This collaboration is founded on developing a unified operational framework that aligns with Dubai's forward-looking vision. Dubai Police have conducted extensive investigations into serious and injury-related incidents and have provided legal support to the incident management unit. They have also undertaken comprehensive studies aimed at enhancing traffic incident management and have developed a guide to improve the handling of such incidents.

The project has achieved remarkable results in improving security response speed and reducing traffic congestion. It aims to decrease clearance time for minor incidents, reduce congestion and related costs, and lower the frequency of secondary incidents. The partnership with Emirates Auction has played a crucial role in achieving shared goals for smoother traffic flow and prompt clearance of damaged vehicles. This collaboration has resulted in the removal of thousands of vehicles from roads and a decline in accident reports.

Lieutenant General Al Marri emphasized that Dubai Police's roles are integral to creating a cohesive operational system that supports the city's ambitious future objectives. The strategic partnership between RTA and Dubai Police not only benefits road users but also enhances the sustainability of traffic safety in Dubai.
