New Lane Additions By Dubai RTA Boost Al Khail Road Capacity, Reducing Congestion by 25%
In a significant move to enhance road infrastructure and ease congestion, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) recently completed a kilometre of road widening projects across two critical locations in the city — Al Jaddaf and Business Bay. This development is set to significantly improve traffic flow and road efficiency, benefiting both residents and visitors alike.
These enhancements form part of the RTA's broader efforts to upgrade road infrastructure across the emirate, targeting areas with high traffic volumes and strategic importance. The ultimate goal is to serve the needs of Al Khail Road users, including residents of nearby communities, visitors to local commercial outlets, and participants in various development projects.
Hamad Al Shehhi, Director of Roads at RTA's Traffic and Roads Agency, highlighted the significant impact of these projects. "Al Khail Road is a vital traffic corridor in Dubai, witnessing a surge in vehicle movement. RTA was keen to add a new lane at Al Jaddaf, increasing the number of lanes to six and boosting the road's capacity by about 2,000 vehicles per hour, which has reduced congestion by 25%," he stated.
Al Shehhi further elaborated on the benefits of the expansion at Business Bay, noting, "The surface expansion of Al Khail Road at the entrance to the Business Bay area will improve the flow of traffic entering the Business Bay area from Al Khail Road and enhance traffic safety in that sector in the direction of Abu Dhabi."
The RTA has plans to continue its efforts in improving Al Khail Road, with further enhancements expected at several locations as part of the Al Khail Road Improvement Project. This ambitious project is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2024, promising to bring about significant improvements in traffic management and road safety across Dubai.
