Dubai's RTA Receives Prestigious International Recognition For Transport Services

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has earned four recognition certificates from the International Association of Public Transport (UITP). These accolades highlight RTA’s excellence in transport planning, investment, innovation, and digital transformation. The awards reflect the authority's commitment to integrating world-class tools and methodologies in developing transport projects that align with Dubai's urban and economic growth.

The UITP awarded RTA the ‘Organising Transport’ certificate for its leadership in modern transport planning practices. RTA employs an integrated approach that includes data collection, scenario development, and the use of advanced analytical tools. This methodology ensures comprehensive planning and solutions for road and public transport projects, aligning with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.

RTA’s strategic plans are developed using a sophisticated model known as the ‘Dubai Transport Planning Model.’ This model incorporates all relevant data to predict future traffic volumes and passenger numbers. It also helps evaluate road and transport projects, ensuring they meet the emirate's urban and economic needs.

The ‘Investment Pillar’ certificate was awarded to RTA for its exceptional efforts in executing investment opportunities. These initiatives aim to boost commercial revenues and foster partnerships with the private sector across various domains such as technology, operations, and sustainable business practices.

Fatima Al Mandoos, Director of Innovation & Pioneering at RTA, stated, "Specialised experts from the UITP had carried out several assessments processes, which identified 55 pioneering practices, and 4 unique practices based on UITP's established standards for specialised projects and initiatives. The practices support the competitiveness and sustainability indicators as well as RTA's vision as the World Leader in Seamless and Sustainable Mobility."

Digital Transformation Strategy

RTA received recognition under the ‘Digital Transformation Pillar’ for its Digital Strategy 2030. This strategy encompasses 24 innovative digital initiatives across seven areas: digital twins, metaverse, robotics, integrated systems, enterprise solutions, artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, and the Internet of Things (IoT). The goal is to develop a flexible digital infrastructure that enhances Dubai's status as a smart city.

The evaluation by UITP highlighted RTA’s use of world-class planning tools to ensure that road and transport projects align with Dubai’s urban growth objectives. This comprehensive approach confirms RTA’s commitment to sustainable mobility solutions.

Innovation and Future Foresight

The ‘Innovation and Future Foresight Pillar’ certificate was awarded to RTA for its role in launching strategies aligned with global innovation practices. This includes RTA's Innovation Strategy which aligns with its Strategic Plan 2024-2030 and the National Innovation Strategy. The authority has successfully integrated a culture of innovation within its departments by measuring innovation indices across all operations.
