RTA Unveils 20 New Air-Conditioned Rest Areas For Delivery Riders In Dubai

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed20 out of 40 planned air-conditioned rest areas for delivery riders. These facilities are located in key spots across the Emirate. The initiative aims to improve road safety, promote well-being, and reduce road incidents. By offering these amenities, RTA hopes to make delivery riders more comfortable while waiting for orders, thus boosting their happiness and encouraging adherence to traffic laws.

The number of companies offering motorcycle delivery services in Dubai reached 2,535 by the end of June, with 40,088 delivery bikes operating. The rest areas were strategically placed based on operational data analysis and demand studies in coordination with delivery companies.

Locations include Hessa Street, Al Barsha Heights, Al Karama, Riggat Al Buteen, Umm Suqeim (Jumeirah 3), Jumeirah (Al Wasl Road), The Greens, Dubai World Trade Centre, Al Rashdiya, Al Satwa, Nad Al Hamar, Al Nahda, Oud Metha, Arabian Ranches, International City, Business Bay, Dubai Marina, Al Jaddaf, Mirdif, Last Exit Al Khawaneej, Dubai Motor City and Al Garhoud.

The external design of these rest areas was carefully planned to reduce sunlight impact inside while ensuring proper insulation without blocking views. Each rest area includes air-conditioned spaces equipped with snack vending machines, water dispensers, and mobile phone charging stations. Depending on location size, each area can accommodate up to 10 people with sufficient motorcycle parking spaces nearby.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, stated, "RTA is committed to providing a safe and comfortable environment for delivery drivers. This initiative aims to enhance traffic safety for all road users and achieve the targeted indicators of the Dubai Traffic Safety Strategy with its 'Zero Fatalities' vision to rank Dubai the best in the world in terms of traffic safety."

This initiative aligns with significant growth in the delivery sector due to rising public demand for goods. By improving conditions for delivery riders through these rest areas and awards programs like the Delivery Service Excellence Award, RTA aims to foster a safer and more efficient delivery ecosystem in Dubai.
