Dubai Radiology Conference Highlights Role Of Artificial Intelligence In Stroke And Breast Cancer Treatment
The recent 13th Conference of the United Arab Society of Radiology Societies and the 9th Annual Meeting of the Emirates Radiology Society concluded in Dubai. The event focused on artificial intelligence (AI) in treating strokes and breast cancer. Dr. Taleb Al Mansoori, President of the Conference, highlighted its theme, "What matters, radiology in emergencies," which spanned three days.
Dr. Osama Al Bastaki, Consultant and Head of the Radiology Department at Rashid Hospital, emphasised AI's role in radiology. He stated that AI accounts for about 75% of radiology processes due to its efficiency in disease detection and diagnosis. This technology has simplified image analysis for conditions like strokes, enabling quicker and more precise diagnoses.

Dr. Al Mansoori explained that AI is crucial for early diagnosis and guiding treatment plans. It allows doctors to independently analyse medical images and offer recommendations for diagnosis and treatment. This capability helps deliver optimal healthcare while minimising risks associated with medical decisions.
The conference featured 69 lectures, 16 scientific sessions, interactive discussions, five scientific workshops, five seminars, and 21 research papers. These sessions addressed significant scientific issues and advancements in radiology, particularly focusing on AI's role in enhancing imaging techniques.
AI's integration into hospitals aims to speed up processes and save time for both patients and doctors. Dr. Al Mansoori noted that AI significantly improves diagnosis accuracy and enhances the performance of medical equipment. This advancement is crucial for timely patient care where minutes can be critical.
In government hospitals and major private facilities across the country, AI has been instrumental in breast cancer screening as part of the national early detection programme. It also plays a vital role in medical fitness checks, fracture assessments, and other health evaluations.
Enhancing Data Analysis
Dr. Al Bastaki pointed out that AI aids in analysing vast amounts of data efficiently. This capability supports radiologists by examining personal patient images more effectively, thereby boosting recovery chances and improving overall healthcare quality.
The conference underscored AI's transformative impact on radiology practices within the UAE's healthcare system. By streamlining processes and enhancing diagnostic accuracy, AI continues to play a pivotal role in advancing medical imaging technologies.
