Dubai's DPG33 To Host First-Ever Government Pavilion At Gamescom 2025 In Cologne

The Dubai Programme for Gaming 2033 (DPG33) will host the Middle East's inaugural government pavilion at Gamescom 2025. This event, the largest in the gaming world, will occur in Cologne, Germany, from 20-24 August. The pavilion signifies Dubai's ambition to rank among the top 10 global gaming hubs by 2033.

Since its launch in November 2023, DPG33 has significantly boosted Dubai's gaming sector. Over 60 new gaming companies have been established, bringing the total to more than 350. Of these, 260 focus on game development, with a majority headquartered in Dubai. This growth reflects the emirate's commitment to becoming a global leader in gaming.

Dubai Hosts First Government Pavilion at Gamescom

H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum emphasised Dubai's role as a creative and digital industry hub. "Dubai continues to strengthen its global competitiveness by focusing on innovation and exploring future opportunities," she stated. The emirate aims to foster an ecosystem combining innovation, education, technology, and talent development.

Representing Dubai at Gamescom are key entities like the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), and the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC). These organisations aim to showcase Dubai’s infrastructure and talent pool for game designers, developers, entrepreneurs, and production companies.

Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of DFF, highlighted that "Dubai is rapidly becoming a top global destination for people and businesses involved in the gaming industry following the launch of DPG33." The programme outlines a decade-long plan to position Dubai as a global leader in gaming by supporting innovation and investment.

Hala Badri from Dubai Culture noted that electronic gaming is crucial to the creative economy. She said this sector attracts skilled individuals and creates economic opportunities due to its innovative nature. Initiatives by Dubai Culture aim to empower young talent to expand their skills in this dynamic field.

Infrastructure Supporting Growth

Ahmed bin Sulayem of DMCC remarked on Gamescom’s significance as a platform for showcasing Dubai's growing capabilities. He stated that over 140 gaming companies operate within DMCC’s ecosystem. This environment provides access to capital and licensing solutions essential for scaling up globally.

The pavilion at Gamescom will also highlight partnerships with major companies like Sony, Nvidia, Riot Games, and Xsolla. These collaborations aim to attract investment and foster growth within Dubai’s gaming sector.

Gamescom is renowned for gathering the international gaming community both physically and online. The 2025 edition at Koelnmesse exhibition centre anticipates record attendance after last year's success with 335,000 visitors from 122 countries.

The DPG33 initiative seeks not only economic growth but also community engagement through governance improvements and talent development. By creating a vibrant ecosystem for gaming companies, it aims to enhance Dubai’s presence on the global stage while building international partnerships.
