Dubai Ports Authority Launches Port Eye Smart Drone System To Enhance Operational Safety And Efficiency

The Dubai Ports Authority (DPA), under the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), has introduced "Port Eye," an advanced aerial monitoring system. This system uses autonomous drones and artificial intelligence to create intelligent and sustainable port ecosystems. It aims to improve operational safety, monitor environmental conditions, and inspect port infrastructure in Dubai's maritime zones.

Equipped with 4K thermal imaging cameras and sophisticated environmental sensors, these drones operate autonomously within a centralized smart control network. This setup provides real-time visual feeds and instant data analytics, significantly reducing manual intervention in high-risk environments. The initiative aligns with the UAE’s Green Agenda 2030 and Net Zero 2050 commitments by enhancing energy efficiency.

Dubai Ports Authority Unveils Port Eye Drone System

Captain Ibrahim Al Blooshi, Executive Director of the Dubai Ports Authority, stated: "Port Eye reflects our strategic commitment to building a smart, safe, and sustainable port ecosystem driven by real-time data and AI-powered insights." He emphasized that this project represents a significant advancement in Dubai’s digital transformation within the maritime sector, reinforcing its status as a global leader in smart port innovation.

The system's intelligent sensors can detect ship emissions, track marine pollution, and ensure compliance with international environmental standards. The drones feature fully autonomous flight navigation and AI-driven image processing capabilities. They can measure sulfur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and other emissions in real time.

Al Blooshi highlighted that inspection times have been reduced from four hours to just fifty minutes. This improvement enhances decision-making efficiency while ensuring safer operations. Port Eye is unique in the region for combining real-time analytics with rapid incident response capabilities.

The live data collected by the drones is visualized through a 3D interactive dashboard connected directly to DPA’s command center. This connection allows for immediate responses and predictive maintenance. Early results indicate that Port Eye has improved inspection efficiency by over 60 percent compared to traditional methods.

Setting New Standards in Maritime Innovation

This innovative system sets a new benchmark for intelligent port operations. It reinforces Dubai’s position as a global hub for maritime innovation and smart safety management. By leveraging advanced technology, Port Eye supports sustainable development goals while enhancing operational effectiveness.

The introduction of Port Eye marks a significant step forward in building smarter port ecosystems. Through its use of cutting-edge technology, it not only improves safety but also contributes to environmental sustainability efforts in line with national objectives.
