Dubai Police Seize 1,780 Scooters And Bicycles To Improve Road Safety And Compliance

Earlier this month, authorities in Al Rifa'a took a significant step towards enhancing road safety by seizing 1,417 bicycles and 363 electric scooters and bicycles. These actions were in response to numerous violations, such as the use of these vehicles on public roads and pedestrian pathways, which pose a threat to both the riders and other individuals in the vicinity.

Brigadier Ghaleb Abdullah Mohammed Al Ghafli, the Acting Director of Al Rifa'a Police Station, highlighted the dangers associated with riding scooters and bicycles in unauthorized areas. "Such behaviours disrupt traffic and endanger lives," Al Ghafli remarked, underlining the Dubai Police's dedication to improving road safety through ongoing educational efforts and strict enforcement of traffic laws.

Dubai Police have emphasized the importance of adhering to specific safety measures for riders. Colonel Muhammad Ahmad Ashkanani, Head of the Traffic Records Section at Al Rifa'a Police Station, listed several key guidelines, including the use of designated bike lanes, avoiding jogging and walking paths, and the prohibition of carrying passengers on electric scooters. He further advised against overloading bikes or scooters, highlighted the necessity of equipping vehicles with proper lighting, and stressed the importance of wearing helmets and reflective vests.

Ashkanani also provided additional safety recommendations, urging riders to dismount and walk their bicycles across pedestrian crossings, maintain safe distances from vehicles and pedestrians, refrain from making unauthorized modifications to their vehicles, and avoid towing or being towed by other vehicles. He emphasized the critical nature of using rear and side lights, especially at night or in adverse weather conditions, to ensure everyone's safety on the road.

In their commitment to maintaining public safety, Dubai Police issued 251 fines for a variety of infractions, such as not wearing helmets, ignoring traffic signals, and lacking necessary safety features like reflective clothing and proper vehicle lighting. The police's efforts to educate road users and enforce traffic laws aim to mitigate reckless behaviors and create safer streets for all.

To further their mission, Dubai Police have called on the public to report unsafe behaviors and dangerous practices. This can be done through the "Police Eye" service on the Dubai Police app or by calling the "We Are All Police" hotline at 901. This initiative encourages community involvement in promoting road safety and underscores the shared responsibility of all road users to adhere to established guidelines and regulations.
