Dubai Police Enhances Maritime Security: 10 Rescues, 78 Collisions, and 272 Violations in Early 2024
In the first half of 2024, the marine rescue teams of Dubai Police were actively engaged in ensuring the safety of the maritime domain, handling 10 rescue operations and responding to 78 maritime collisions.
This period also recorded 272 maritime violations, highlighting the challenges faced in maintaining security and safety at sea. The teams, equipped with the latest technology and advanced rescue tools, showcased their proficiency and preparedness in addressing these incidents.
Brigadier Dr. Hassan Suhail Al Suwaidi, the Director of the Ports Police Station, underscored the commitment of Dubai Police to bolster maritime security and safeguard individuals at sea. He pointed out that the police's dedication to improving emergency services and enhancing beach safety forms a crucial part of their strategy to protect lives and property. Brig. Al Suwaidi emphasized the development of specialized teams and the acquisition of cutting-edge technologies to strengthen the security along the beaches and ensure the community's well-being.

Brig. Al Suwaidi shed light on the rigorous and comprehensive training regimen that the marine security and rescue teams undergo. This training includes simulations of emergency scenarios and response drills, conducted in collaboration with key partners such as the Dubai Police Air Wing, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, and the Marine Fire and Rescue Department of Dubai Civil Defense General Command. "The teams undergo regular training in the most up-to-date rescue techniques and emergency response procedures," he remarked, highlighting the importance of being well-prepared to handle maritime emergencies effectively.
Colonel Ali Abdullah Al Naqbi, Deputy Director of the Ports Police Station, highlighted the essential role of the marine rescue teams in managing maritime emergencies, including natural disasters like storms. Col. Al Naqbi praised the teams for their swift and effective response capabilities, which have been crucial in saving lives and providing timely assistance during critical situations.
Further, Col. Al Naqbi elaborated on the collaborative efforts within the Station to maintain maritime security and monitor coastal navigation, aligning with Dubai Police's strategic objectives. He emphasized the goal of fostering a safe and resilient environment that enables prompt responses to crises and disasters. According to Col. Al Naqbi, the Facilities Security Section conducted 12 field inspections, identifying areas requiring adjustments by relevant entities to comply with laws and regulations.
The Ports Police Station is committed to continually enhancing the capabilities of its marine rescue and security teams. Col. Al Naqbi mentioned the focus on innovation and the expansion of cooperation with both local and international partners. "This includes leveraging the latest technologies to ensure rapid and effective responses to incidents while maintaining the highest safety and security standards for citizens, residents, and visitors," he stated.
Lieutenant Colonel Ali Hamid Al Shamsi, Head of the Marine Security Section, stressed the importance of promoting maritime security and safety awareness. In the first half of this year, the Station conducted over 550 lectures and training workshops. These sessions were focused on maritime security, safety, and organized navigation procedures in accordance with safe maritime laws, demonstrating a proactive approach towards enhancing awareness and ensuring the safety of maritime activities.
