Dubai Police Unveils Three New Strategies To Improve Road Safety And Reduce Traffic Accidents
Dubai Police has implemented three specialised strategies to improve road safety and decrease traffic accidents in the emirate. These include a joint strategy with the Roads and Transport Authority, alongside two additional plans aimed at reducing accidents and creating a safer traffic environment. These initiatives were reviewed during an inspection by Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, at the General Department of Traffic.
The Traffic Department has achieved significant milestones, such as joining the International organisation for the Accreditation Commission for Traffic Accident Reconstruction (ACTAR). They have also obtained international accreditation from IDEALEST and certified four ACTAR experts. Additionally, they developed projects like the smart operations room and registered twenty intellectual works related to road safety.

Dubai Police is working on several upcoming projects to enhance traffic management. These include a unified smart system for managing traffic violations, the Wasl project that links traffic systems with local partners, a new digital fines platform, a driver behaviour monitoring system, and Area 56—a fully digital environment supporting traffic operations.
With Dubai's population expected to reach approximately 8.55 million in 2024, traffic challenges persist. Last year saw 157 fatalities due to major causes like sudden swerving, failure to maintain a safe distance, negligence, stopping in the middle of the road, and running red lights.
Awareness campaigns have successfully reached over twenty million people. Social media content promoting safer driving habits garnered more than 1.8 billion views. Dubai Police has also activated electronic integration with Gulf Cooperation Council countries' traffic systems to streamline information exchange and violation processing.
Targeted campaigns for delivery motorcycle riders were launched with government and private partners. This led to a 19.4 percent increase in recorded violations, totalling 27,353 offences in 2024.
Addressing Future Challenges
The department is tackling challenges related to population growth, increasing vehicle numbers, and the future introduction of self-driving cars. They are ready to adopt solutions supporting Dubai Police’s vision for zero road fatalities by 2033.
Lieutenant General Al Marri commended the department's progress. He reaffirmed Dubai Police’s commitment to smart planning, strong partnerships, modern technology, and continuous awareness efforts to ensure Dubai remains a global model for traffic safety and innovation.
