Dubai Police Launches New Cybercrime Awareness Platform To Enhance Community Safety
The Dubai Police's Cybercrime Department has introduced an online platform to educate the public about cybercrime. This initiative, available in Arabic and English, aims to inform users about prevention strategies and how to identify and avoid fraudulent activities. The platform is accessible to everyone, including children, parents, business owners, employees, and social media users.
Major General Harib Al Shamsi emphasised that this platform aligns with the directives of His Excellency Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri. He stated, "This initiative underscores a commitment to enhancing awareness of cybercrime, thereby improving safety and security within the community." Al Shamsi also highlighted the importance of staying ahead of technological advancements to protect against fraudsters.

Major Abdullah Al Shehhi explained that the platform helps users understand cybercrime risks and take timely action. It provides educational resources on cybersecurity basics, guidance on reporting cybercrimes, and tips for identifying phishing attempts. "The platform emphasizes the importance of being cautious with suspicious links, using strong and unique passwords, and regularly backing up data," he noted.
The platform also educates users on protecting their devices and promoting safe browsing practices. It covers securing phones, computers, smart devices, account protection strategies, and avoiding online fraud. Users can learn about various threats like phone scams, deepfakes, phishing, SMS fraud, voice calls, and QR codes.
Users gain insights into recognising different types of fraud through the platform. It teaches them how to spot scams in job offers, banking services, fake deliveries, and protect financial data from phishing attacks using one-time passwords (OTPs). The platform also advises on verifying online shopping deals before payments.
A section titled ‘Reporting and Recovery’ guides users on reporting cybercrimes if they fall victim to fraud. It offers advice on restoring cybersecurity after a breach with tailored guidance for residents and tourists. Specific recommendations are provided for businesses and government employees as well.
Commitment to Community Safety
Al Shamsi reiterated Dubai Police's dedication to providing innovative services aligned with UAE's strategic goals. The awareness platform empowers community members by offering essential information that protects their data from exploitation. This initiative supports Dubai's vision for smart services by enhancing community safety.
The platform equips users with knowledge to avoid becoming victims of malware or ransomware attacks. It provides guidance on strengthening defenses against social engineering attacks and identity theft while helping recognise impersonation tactics on social media platforms.
This educational tool is designed to raise awareness about website-related threats. By learning how to identify malware types and safeguard devices effectively, users can better protect themselves from potential cyber threats.
