Oud Maitha Road Development Advances As Dubai RTA Reaches 60% Completion Of Al Asayel Street
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority reports that 60 percent of the Oud Maitha Road and Al Asayel Street development project is finished under the Sheikh Rashid Corridor Development Project. The upgrade links Al Asayel Street with Al Khail Road through Al Wasl Club Street. It also provides a dedicated exit towards Oud Maitha Road and Al Wasl Club Street to ease local traffic.
The overall scheme aims to support future demand, with the network expected to serve over 420,000 residents by 2030. RTA states that Oud Maitha Road capacity will rise from 10,400 to 15,600 vehicles per hour in both directions. The authority expects journey times on that stretch to drop from 20 minutes to 5 minutes once works finish.

The Oud Maitha Road and Al Asayel Street development project forms a key section of the wider Sheikh Rashid Corridor improvements, which target growing urban areas. The scope covers four main intersections, including new bridges and surface roads. RTA notes that related works will help support residential, medical, and sporting hubs that line the corridor.
The construction package includes 4.3 km of bridges and 14 km of roads built or upgraded. Intersections and ramps are designed to improve access to areas such as Zabeel, Al Jaddaf, Oud Maitha, Umm Hurair, Latifa Hospital, and Al Wasl Club. These communities are expected to benefit from shorter travel times and better traffic flow across the corridor network.
RTA confirms that the contractor has completed 70 percent of the bridges carrying traffic from Al Asayel Street towards Al Khail Road northbound, heading to Business Bay Crossing. Teams are preparing for this link to open during the first quarter of the current year. Officials say the structure will handle heavy movements between key business and residential zones.
The project contractor has also finished around 60 percent of the tunnel works for vehicles moving from Dubai–Al Ain Road towards Al Wasl Club Street. Work continues on widening connecting roads and completing related bridge units. RTA plans to open these elements during the third quarter of this year, adding another route for east–west journeys across Dubai.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, said, "Oud Maitha Road and Al Asayel Street development project is being undertaken in line with leadership directives to complete the development of the Sheikh Rashid Corridor to accommodate urban expansion and population growth. The project is among key road infrastructure developments, encompassing the upgrade of four major intersections, including the construction of bridges spanning 4.3 km and roads extending 14 km."
He added, "The project supports a host of key service, residential, and development areas, most notably Zabeel, Al Jaddaf, Oud Maitha, Umm Hurair, Latifa Hospital, and Al Wasl Club. The project will also increase the capacity of Oud Maitha Road from 10,400 vehicles per hour in both directions to 15,600 vehicles per hour, representing a 50 percent increase, while reducing journey time from 20 minutes to just 5 minutes, achieving an improvement of 75 percent."
When all stages of the Oud Maitha Road and Al Asayel Street development project are completed, RTA expects smoother trips across central Dubai and the wider Sheikh Rashid Corridor. The authority links this road package to long-term plans for managing congestion while supporting growth in nearby communities, hospitals, and sports facilities over the coming years.
