Dubai Municipality Expands Guidance For Businesses On Single Use Plastics Ban
In a significant step towards environmental conservation, Dubai Municipality (DM) has enhanced its guidance for the single-use plastics ban, initially announced in January. This initiative, backed by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, aims to curb plastic waste by altering consumer behaviors and encouraging recycling practices among businesses and the community.
The updated guidance is part of the #DubaiMoreSustainable campaign, unveiled at COP28. It includes an expanded awareness guide complete with an FAQ section designed to assist individuals and businesses in complying with the new regulations. This initiative targets a broad audience including public sector entities, private businesses, corporations, and institutions, urging them to integrate sustainable practices into their daily routines both at work and home.
Mohammed Alrayees, Head of Waste Strategy and Projects Department at Dubai Municipality, emphasized the city's commitment to becoming a leading sustainable global city. "This comprehensive guide has been launched to address inquiries regarding single-use plastics and their eco-friendly alternatives, supporting our mission to encourage sustainable practices across all sectors," he stated.
The guide, accessible online in both Arabic and English, provides crucial insights into the ban and suggests green alternatives to single-use plastics. It also offers practical tips for adopting more sustainable habits. This move by Dubai Municipality not only aims to protect the environment but also supports the development of a circular economy, sustainable development, and the conservation of natural resources for future generations.
Through these efforts, Dubai continues to advance its quality of life and sustainability goals, setting a precedent for environmental stewardship in the region.
