Dubai Municipality Strengthens Food Safety With Five New MoUs For Innovative Practices
Dubai Municipality has entered into five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with various government bodies, private organisations, and academic institutions. These agreements aim to enhance scientific research, utilise advanced technologies, and improve AI-driven solutions. The focus is on strengthening food supply chain resilience and adopting innovative practices for a safe and sustainable food ecosystem. This initiative reinforces Dubai's role as a global leader in shaping the future of food safety.
In collaboration with Canadian University Dubai and Manipal University Dubai, Dubai Municipality aims to boost research and technical consultations. These partnerships focus on municipal priorities like environmental health and food safety. They include knowledge exchange in food inspection systems, using AI and data analytics to enhance performance and identify risks. Youth development is also supported through training programmes and community engagement initiatives.

A MoU with Ecolab UAE General Trading focuses on water system safety, food safety, and consumer product safety. This partnership aims to advance regulatory systems through joint initiatives promoting sustainable practices. Innovation, AI adoption, and modern technologies are central to elevating safety standards across the sector.
Strengthening Food Supply Chains
The agreement with Jebel Ali Free Zone seeks to facilitate food safety compliance for major companies. It aims to enhance supply chain flexibility, unify procedures for better efficiency, strengthen regulatory performance in the free zone, and speed up food clearance processes for the local market. This supports proactive public health protection.
Focus on Research and Innovation
Dubai Municipality's MoU with Rochester Institute of Technology – Dubai aims to bolster academic-industry collaboration. It focuses on student training, scientific research, and capacity building to support the emirate’s goals for food safety and public health. The agreement encourages research in food safety, AI integration in inspection processes, risk assessment, scientific publication, and participation in specialised conferences.
Dr Naseem Al Rafaei stated that these partnerships extend Dubai Municipality’s efforts to position the emirate as a global centre for food safety innovation. "Our aim is to advance Dubai’s food ecosystem so that it becomes more sustainable, competitive, and trusted at local and international levels," said Dr Al Rafaei. Advanced technologies help anticipate challenges while developing effective solutions.
The nineteenth edition of the Dubai International Food Safety Conference served as a backdrop for these agreements. Organised by Dubai Municipality, this event is the region’s largest platform for experts in food safety worldwide. It hosted over 3,500 participants along with 225 speakers from 70 countries.
