Dubai Municipality to Inaugurate Ramadan Souq Tomorrow: A Blend of Tradition and Shopping
The 'Ramadan Souq', a cherished and longstanding tradition in Dubai, is set to commence tomorrow and will continue until 9th March 2024. Hosted by Dubai Municipality, this event is staged at the historic Old Municipality Street in Bur Deira, a famed traditional market area. The souq is anticipated to attract a vast number of visitors, including citizens, residents, tourists, and other guests, all eager to partake in the vibrant commercial activities, food showcases, and the unique shopping experience it offers at competitive prices.
The event is renowned for its mini marketplace that presents a traditional market ambiance, offering an array of items and gadgets vital for Ramadan preparations. Special products for celebrating 'Hag Al Laila' are also available. Moreover, the souq provides various services, live entertainment shows, and activities tailored for children, making it a comprehensive family event.

Dubai Municipality places a significant emphasis on the development of heritage sites and old markets within the emirate. By organizing events like the Ramadan Souq, the Municipality aims to highlight the historical and heritage significance of Dubai. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to support investors and attract investment while providing diverse and engaging attractions that enhance Dubai's attractiveness as an international tourist destination.
The initiative to launch Ramadan Souq aligns with Dubai Municipality's commitment to preserving the heritage and authenticity of age-old customs associated with Ramadan preparations. The souq operates daily from 10AM to 10PM, offering visitors ample time to explore its offerings.
Deira's historical markets are integral to Dubai's traditional commercial landscape, with origins dating back to the 19th century. Among these is the Grand Souq in Bur Deira, also known as 'Al Dhalam Souq' or Darkness Market, celebrated for its wide product range. The area also hosts the Plates Market, offering kitchen essentials, a men's fabrics market, 'Souq Al Manazer' for various goods, 'Al-Matarih Market' for armchairs and pillows (tikki), along with markets dedicated to food, marine tools, fabrics, perfumes, and gold.
These markets have been meticulously restored, rehabilitated, and categorized based on their types, ensuring they retain their traditional charm while serving modern needs.
Enhancing Dubai's Public Attractions
The annual 'Ramadan Souq' event is part of Dubai Municipality's ongoing initiatives to bolster tourism, entertainment, and commercial activities within the emirate. This effort not only aims to attract investments but also seeks to enhance the demand for Dubai's public attractions and various entertainment venues. Through such endeavours, Dubai Municipality continues to solidify Dubai’s position as a leading international tourist destination while celebrating its rich cultural heritage.
