Dubai's New Smart Marine Scraper Aims To Combat Water Pollution

Dubai Municipality has recently introduced a significant innovation in its ongoing efforts to enhance environmental sustainability within the Emirate of Dubai. The launch of a smart marine scraper, developed by local Emirati talents in partnership with Al Khattal Boat Factory, marks a notable step forward in the municipality's commitment to maintaining the cleanliness and ecological balance of its waterways. This advanced marine scraper is designed to efficiently collect floating waste from creeks and water canals, showcasing Dubai's proactive approach to environmental conservation.

The smart marine scraper operates with cutting-edge technology, including remote control capabilities over an unlimited range and real-time monitoring through satellite technology. Its operation is bolstered by the use of 5G networks, allowing for precise maneuvers in marine environments. The scraper is not only adept at identifying and collecting waste but also features secondary systems like an intelligent marine survey system for waste site identification and an interactive external environment system to prevent collisions, enhancing marine safety.

One of the standout features of this innovative tool is its capacity to collect and transfer up to 1,000 kilogrammes of floating marine waste, significantly boosting productivity in waste management efforts. Dubai Municipality's dedication to leveraging advanced technology for environmental sustainability is evident in its allocation of resources and capabilities towards integrated municipal services. These initiatives are crucial for reducing marine pollution and protecting Dubai's natural habitats.

In addition to technological advancements, Dubai Municipality has established a dedicated team responsible for the upkeep of over 35 kilometres (19 nautical miles) of water canals and creeks. This team, consisting of 12 marine captains, 25 workers and sailors, along with 12 marine vehicles, undertakes daily cleaning operations as per a meticulously planned schedule. Their round-the-clock field follow-ups ensure the effectiveness of these environmental preservation efforts.

The introduction of the smart marine scraper by Dubai Municipality is a testament to the Emirate's commitment to environmental sustainability and innovation.
