UAE Weather: Dubai Metro Extends Operating Hours Today

Amidst a tumultuous storm hitting Dubai, resulting in widespread waterlogging and severe winds, the city's daily rhythm has been notably disrupted. Schools have transitioned to remote learning and government officials are working from home. However, the private sector has received no formal directive, leaving many to navigate the challenging commute. In light of these conditions, the Dubai Metro is a big boon for those venturing out, steering clear of the rain-drenched roads.

The Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai (RTA) has taken a proactive step to accommodate the city's transportation needs during this inclement weather. On April 16, 2024, the RTA announced an extension of the Dubai Metro's operational hours, now running until 3 am on April 17. This decision aims to enhance public safety and alleviate the increased demand on the metro system amidst the stormy weather. The RTA's commitment to the comfort and safety of Dubai's residents and commuters is evident in their swift response to the challenging weather conditions.

In a social media announcement, the RTA highlighted the extension, emphasizing their dedication to ensuring smooth and secure travel during the rainy conditions. Furthermore, for those caught without an umbrella, the RTA is offering a complimentary smart umbrella service at select stations, including Al Ghubaiba Bus and Metro station. These umbrellas can be conveniently accessed using a valid nol card, demonstrating the RTA's holistic approach to passenger comfort.

Complementing the RTA's efforts, Dubai Police issued crucial road safety guidelines on Monday evening, addressing the risks posed by the rain, strong winds, thunder, and lightning. This comprehensive response by Dubai's authorities underlines the city's preparedness and resilience in the face of natural adversities, ensuring the well-being of its residents and the continuity of its services amidst challenging weather conditions.
