Dubai Media Council Targets Future-Readiness With Policy Overhaul

In a significant move to adapt to the evolving media landscape, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council, has called for a comprehensive overhaul of the media sector's organisational structures, regulations, and legislations in Dubai. This initiative aims to ensure the media's ability to deliver their message objectively and cater to their audiences in line with international best practices and ethical standards. The announcement was made during a meeting at the Dubai Media Council’s headquarters, attended by key figures including Mona Al Marri, Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council, and Nehal Badri, Secretary General of the Council.

Sheikh Ahmed emphasised the need for a strategic blueprint to drive the media sector forward, highlighting Dubai's legislative flexibility as a cornerstone of its success as a global business hub and investment destination. He pointed out ongoing efforts to develop policies and regulatory frameworks that align with global advancements in the media sector, reinforcing Dubai's leadership position both regionally and globally.

Dubai's Media Sector Eyes Future-Readiness

The Media Policy Development Plan in Dubai was also discussed, focusing on three key aspects: policies related to media professions, vital and emerging media sectors, and investment policies. Sheikh Ahmed stressed the importance of enhancing the media economy through comprehensive policies that support the investment environment, particularly in talent development and technological advancement.

The #RamadanInDubai campaign, launched at the beginning of Ramadan on Sheikh Ahmed's directives, was reviewed during the meeting. Managed by Brand Dubai, the creative arm of the Government of Dubai Media Office, the campaign has significantly contributed to Ramadan festivities in Dubai. It showcased seamless coordination between government entities, authorities, institutions, and the private sector. The campaign has been pivotal in commemorating Ramadan and promoting Dubai as a premier global city for living and visiting.

Mona Al Marri outlined ongoing efforts to advance the media sector according to Sheikh Ahmed's directives. These efforts focus on governance, legislation and policy development, human capital development, talent attraction, and providing training opportunities for local talents. This concerted push aims at empowering Dubai's media to achieve high levels of readiness and competitiveness.

Furthermore, Nehal Badri highlighted the Council's commitment to strong governance and adaptable policies that foster confidence, enhance performance, and bolster competitiveness in the media sector. The Council is dedicated to crafting a resilient framework of policies that align with the sector's evolving needs, driven by modern technologies and flexible regulatory frameworks. This approach aims to promote transparency, accountability, and investment attractiveness while supporting sustainable growth.

The meeting also saw participation from Hala Youssef Badri, Malek Sultan Al Malek, Abdullah Hameed Balhoul, Younis Abdulaziz Al Nasser, Amal Ahmed bin Shabib, Mohammed Sulaiman Al Mulla, and Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Al Karam. Together, they underscored the critical role of media in showcasing Dubai's dynamism worldwide and striving for excellence across various domains.
