Dubai Media Council Initiates Media Knowledge Exchange Programme With Japan To Enhance Global Collaboration

The Dubai Media Council (DMC) has launched its Media Knowledge Exchange Programme with a visit to Japan. This initiative aims to foster collaboration and share media expertise and best practices. Over five days, the delegation explored Japan's advanced media landscape, technological innovations, gaming industry, animation sector, and media education frameworks.

Nehal Badri, Secretary General of the Dubai Media Council, led the delegation. They engaged with 22 leading Japanese organisations and institutions. This reflects the Council’s commitment to forging closer connections globally, adopting best practices for media sector growth, and reinforcing Dubai’s status as an innovation-driven global media hub.

Dubai Media Council Visits Japan for Media Exchange

The visit aimed to enhance Dubai’s media ecosystem, particularly its gaming sector. This aligns with the Dubai Program for Gaming 2033 launched by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Discussions included gaming technology and industry innovation with Sega Corporation, Square Enix, and Gree.

Mona Al Marri, Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council, stated that the programme seeks to promote partnerships and share knowledge. "The first in a series of engagements forming part of the Programme," she said about the Japan visit. It was an opportunity to understand how Japan leverages technology and creativity in media.

The DMC delegation visited leading Japanese media companies, universities, and industry players. Meetings covered advanced media technology, gaming, animation, film production, and government initiatives. They discussed entertainment trends with Bandai Namco and met Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS) known for innovative content.

Nehal Badri emphasised the importance of continuous knowledge exchange: "Dubai Media Council is committed to fostering a culture of continuous knowledge exchange." The engagements in Japan provided invaluable insights for strategies and initiatives in Dubai’s media landscape.

Exploring Collaboration Opportunities

Discussions also took place with Uni Japan on successful film festivals and content marketing strategies. Other engagements included TV Asahi for its popular productions; Shibuya Startup Support; Shochiku film studio; and JETRO for promoting international trade engagement.

The programme highlighted potential collaborations in media production, talent exchange, and integrating advanced media technology. It positioned Dubai as an attractive partner for Japanese companies seeking expansion in the Middle East.

Building a Dynamic Media Ecosystem

This initiative is crucial in developing Dubai’s media sector as a global destination for enterprise, talent, innovation, and investment. The outcomes will help build a dynamic ecosystem reflecting global excellence while supporting Dubai's development journey.

The DMC aims to translate learnings into actionable steps supporting initiatives to transform local and regional landscapes. By studying practices in leading markets like Japan, they seek to refine approaches enhancing content excellence and technology integration in Dubai's media sector.
