Dubai Introduces Online Marine Vessel License For International Visitors
Dubai has introduced a streamlined process for issuing marine vessel driving licenses to international visitors. The service, offered by the Dubai Maritime Authority (DMA), caters to holders of marine licenses from countries affiliated with the International Maritime Organization (IMO), including those from the GCC, Europe, the US, other recognised nations. This initiative simplifies access for these visitors to engage in Dubai's marine activities, enhancing their overall experience.
The initiative comes alongside the release of a new manual that governs the licensing of marine vessel crews in Dubai. This document sets the standards for professional qualifications, along with medical and technical criteria that crew members must meet. It consolidates the application and license renewal processes, leveraging digital platforms for efficiency and introduces a framework for recognising licenses from accredited maritime authorities globally.
The updated manual not only specifies the qualifications and experiences required for marine crew members but also outlines the steps for applying for, examining, and renewing licenses. It seeks to ensure that all personnel on board hold the necessary credentials and are fit for their roles, thereby upholding maritime safety and operational standards.
Sheikh Dr. Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, CEO of the DMA, stated, "We believe in providing a flexible maritime environment that meets the aspirations of international visitors and offers them the opportunity to enjoy an exceptional marine experience in Dubai's waters. The release of this manual reflects the Authority's commitment to strengthening maritime safety, ensuring the efficiency and qualification of marine crews, and unifying standards in line with local legislation and international best practices."
By recognising international maritime licenses that comply with its criteria, the DMA facilitates the engagement of foreign visitors in Dubai's marine sector. Applicants can now easily convert their existing licenses into local ones through an electronic process that verifies the authenticity and adherence to Dubai's standards.
