Dubai Mallathon Launches To Transform Shopping Malls Into Community Fitness Hubs
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, has introduced the Dubai Mallathon. This initiative aims to enhance public health by motivating people to engage in daily physical activities during the summer. From 1 to 31 August, shopping malls across Dubai will become fitness tracks from 7:00 to 10:00 a.m., encouraging community participation.
The Dubai Mallathon aligns with the Year of Community, Dubai Social Agenda 33, and Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 33. These initiatives aim to elevate living standards and celebrate the UAE’s cultural heritage. H.H. Sheikh Hamdan emphasised that Dubai aims to set global standards in wellbeing by integrating fitness into everyday life.

Seven major shopping centres, including Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates, will feature walking and running tracks as part of this initiative. The goal is to create spaces that inspire movement and connection while promoting healthier habits among residents and visitors alike.
The initiative also includes collaborations with restaurants and retail outlets offering special deals that support a balanced lifestyle. These partnerships aim to encourage better nutritional choices and help individuals adopt sustainable healthy habits over time.
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan encouraged public participation in the Dubai Mallathon, describing it as an easy way to adopt healthier habits while engaging with the community. "Every step you take moves us closer towards a healthier Dubai," he stated, highlighting the collective effort needed to make Dubai a top place for living and visiting.
The Ministry of Defence sponsors this initiative in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council. It targets all societal segments, including youth, seniors, residents, children, and mall employees, fostering an active lifestyle within a supportive environment.
Utilising Indoor Spaces for Fitness
The initiative seeks to utilise vast indoor spaces in malls for safe sporting activities, providing a solution to summer heat challenges. With air-conditioned environments and advanced infrastructure, these spaces offer an ideal setting for year-round exercise without weather constraints.
Dubai Mallathon also features motivational tools like fitness-tracking systems and health awareness stations. These elements aim to raise awareness about maintaining a healthy lifestyle while encouraging active participation from all community members.
Registration and Participation Details
Participation in the Dubai Mallathon is free. Interested individuals can register through the official website: www.dubaimallathon.ae. Upon registration, participants receive a digital card confirming their enrolment in this community-driven experience designed to promote health and sustainability.
The ‘Walk for Better Health’ programme is another feature of this initiative. Organised by Dubai’s Community Development Authority in collaboration with local malls, it further supports the goal of fostering an active lifestyle among residents.
This initiative reflects a broader commitment to placing people at the centre of development plans in Dubai. By transforming familiar spaces into areas that promote activity and connection, it aims to foster a vibrant social life while encouraging healthier lifestyles across the city.
