Dubai's Sheikh Mohammed and Kurdistan's PM Barzani Confer at World Governments Summit 2024

At the recently concluded World Governments Summit (WGS) 2024, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, engaged in a significant meeting with Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The summit, which was themed "Shaping Future Governments," served as a pivotal platform for discussions on enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation across various sectors between the UAE and Kurdistan.

The meeting witnessed the presence of high-profile leaders including H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, and H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance. Discussions centered around the UAE's commitment to bolstering ties with Kurdistan and the role of WGS in promoting global governmental collaboration for community wellbeing and prosperity.

Dubai and Kurdistan PMs Meet at WGS 2024

Masrour Barzani expressed gratitude towards the UAE for fostering a spirit of collaboration among nations. He highlighted the importance of the World Governments Summit as a venue for world leaders to deliberate on the future of governance. The meeting also saw attendance from H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai; H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Ports and Borders Security Council; and Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of the World Governments Summit.

The three-day event was a gathering point for more than 25 heads of state, over 85 international and regional organisations, 140 governments, and numerous global thought leaders and experts. With more than 200 prominent speakers participating in over 110 dialogues and sessions, the summit addressed future global trends. Additionally, WGS 2024 attracted over 4,000 attendees, hosted more than 23 ministerial meetings and executive sessions attended by over 300 ministers.

This year’s summit not only provided a forum for discussing ways to shape future governance but also underscored the UAE’s role in promoting international cooperation for the betterment of global communities.
