Make Your Garden Eco-Friendly And Win AED300,000 In Prizes From Dubai Municipality
Dubai Municipality has introduced the third edition of its community agriculture competition, themed "The Most Beautiful Sustainable Home Garden in Dubai". This initiative is part of the UAE’s Year of the Community and offers a prize pool of AED300,000. The competition aims to reward 10 entries that showcase sustainable and innovative home gardens with visual appeal.
The contest encourages residents to transform their private gardens into eco-friendly spaces that reflect modern landscaping practices. This aligns with Dubai Municipality’s efforts to increase the city’s green cover and raise environmental awareness. It supports the Dubai Urban Master Plan 2040, which envisions a liveable and environmentally responsible city.

The competition is open to all Dubai residents, including homeowners in residential areas. Participating gardens must blend sustainability with aesthetic appeal, featuring designs that enhance water and energy efficiency. Gardens should also improve plant quality and ensure species adaptability.
Muhammad Abdul Rahman Al Awadi, Director of the Agriculture Department at Dubai Municipality, stated that the competition reflects the municipality’s commitment to enhancing Dubai’s urban landscape and advancing its agriculture sector. He emphasised that the goal extends beyond planting trees to fostering environmental awareness across neighbourhoods.
To assist participants, the municipality will organise workshops and awareness programmes. They will also provide digital guidance to help residents design sustainable home gardens. The initiative highlights innovative technologies and efficient water and energy management, promoting eco-friendly practices within homes.
A specialised judging committee will evaluate entries based on 10 criteria. These include water management efficiency, biodiversity, use of native or adaptive plants, soil health, organic fertilisers, waste management practices, energy efficiency, renewable energy use, microclimate improvement contribution, cleanliness, maintenance ease, safety, accessibility, space utilisation, innovation and technology use.
Al Awadi noted that previous editions achieved significant success with strong community participation. This reflects residents’ growing interest in sustainable gardening and maintaining attractive home environments. The competition encourages adopting sustainable solutions that expand green spaces while enhancing the city’s identity.
This initiative not only promotes environmental responsibility but also integrates sustainable agricultural practices into daily life. By doing so, it supports a vision for a more liveable city through increased green cover and community involvement in sustainability efforts.
