Stuck In The Rains And No Umbrella? Here's Where You Can Find One In Dubai

As Dubai battles extreme weather conditions, including heavy rain, thunder, and lightning, residents and visitors might find themselves in need of an umbrella to navigate the day's plans amidst the storm. Fortunately, a recent collaboration between RTA and UmbraCity, a Canadian smart umbrella share service, offers a solution that keeps individuals dry and on the move at no cost.

In an effort to improve the city's walkability and ensure that rain does not deter daily commutes or explorations, the RTA and UmbraCity introduced a 'free of cost' umbrella service.

Where Can You Get An Umbrella?

This innovative initiative is currently available at a key location in Dubai - the Al Ghubaiba Bus and Metro station. Commuters can easily borrow umbrellas using their nol card, enhancing convenience for both tourists and residents alike.

How Does It Work?

All you need to do is scan your nol card at the automated rental kiosk to register your account. No charges will be applied to your card during this step; it's simply for account setup. Using the touch screen, input your full name and mobile number as prompted by the kiosk. Proceed to add your credit or debit card details. While the umbrella rental is complimentary, it is only free for the initial 24-hour period. Ensure to return the umbrella within this timeframe to avoid charges. Upon completing your use of the umbrella, return it to the kiosk. Failure to return the umbrella within 24 hours will result in a specified fee being charged to your card.

This service is part of Dubai's broader vision to transform into a '20-minute city', where all residents can access their daily needs within a 20-minute walk or bike ride. Such initiatives reflect the city's commitment to fostering a greater sense of community and well-being, making urban living more pleasant and sustainable.

Moreover, this development coincides with the RTA's announcement of the Quick Traffic Improvements Plan. This ambitious plan includes 45 traffic solutions aimed at various locations across the emirate for the years 2023-2024, following the successful implementation of 14 solutions last year. These efforts have notably reduced traffic time by up to 50 percent in some areas, significantly enhancing the city's overall mobility and accessibility.

The introduction of free umbrella sharing services, signifies Dubai's dedication to not only addressing immediate weather-related challenges but also to achieving long-term urban mobility and community goals. As the city continues to innovate and adapt, residents and visitors can look forward to a more connected and comfortable urban experience, come rain or shine.
