Sheikh Maktoum Approves Dubai Judicial Authority’s 2023 Annual Report, Aims For Excellence
H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, recently chaired a pivotal meeting of the Dubai Judicial Council, marking a significant step forward in the evolution of Dubai's judicial system. During this meeting, Sheikh Maktoum approved the 2023 annual report of the Judicial Authority, announced several key appointments across Dubai Courts and the Judicial Inspection Authority, and unveiled a new website for the Dubai Judicial Council. These actions underscore a clear commitment to enhancing the judicial system to meet international standards and align with Dubai's vision of providing the fastest, best, and fairest judicial services.
The annual report showcased a notable improvement in performance indicators, reflecting Dubai's dedication to ensuring prompt justice and adherence to the rule of law. Sheikh Maktoum has directed the implementation of proactive plans and programs aimed at increasing the speed, efficiency, and transparency of the judicial process. This initiative is in response to advancements across various sectors and is part of a broader strategy to enhance Dubai's legal framework.
During the meeting, updates on the progress of strategic plans for judicial institutions in Dubai were discussed. The Attorney General of Dubai highlighted ongoing projects by the Dubai Public Prosecution, including efforts to combat money laundering and the digitalization of criminal case filings. The Director-General of Dubai Courts reported the completion of all planned projects for 2023, such as developing a diploma in judicial expertise and launching an electronic disclosure platform. Additionally, new projects are underway that align with strategic objectives.
The Director of Dubai's Judicial Inspection Authority shed light on key initiatives like digitalizing services and enhancing performance and governance. In line with Sheikh Maktoum's directive to increase awareness about the council's mission, a new website was launched offering 15 new services.
The annual report highlighted significant achievements within judicial institutions, including regulatory decisions and legislation. It also revealed an increase in appointments, financial settlements, processed cases, and reduced processing times for courts and Public Prosecution. Notably, the Appeal Court saw a substantial rise in processed cases compared to the previous year, while the Court of Cassation experienced an uptick in non-criminal lawsuits processed. The Public Prosecution improved its rate of timely case disposal for non-criminal cases, and the Judicial Inspection Authority issued more reports and addressed complaints related to judiciary work.
The Dubai Judicial Council's efforts aim to uphold principles of justice, equality, and rule of law, contributing to sustainable development in Dubai. These initiatives ensure the integrity and efficiency of the judicial system while promoting judicial ethics. Through these comprehensive measures, Dubai continues to strengthen its legal framework, ensuring it remains responsive and aligned with both local needs and international standards.
