How The 5-Year UAE Visa Has Strengthened Economic Collaborations With India
The UAE introduced a revolutionary tourist visa policy in 2021 that enhanced the nation's tourism sector. This scheme allows for a multi-entry tourist visa valid for five years.
The visa permits the holder to stay in the country for up to 90 days on each visit. For those wishing to extend their exploration and experience in the UAE, there's an option to extend the visa for an additional 90 days.
This initiative is part of the UAE's ongoing efforts to boost its tourism industry and make the country a more accessible and appealing destination for international visitors. By allowing tourists to spend more time in the country, the UAE aims to increase tourism spending and further diversify its economy away from oil dependence.
The 5-year multi-entry tourist visa is a significant step towards achieving these goals. It not only simplifies the process of visiting the UAE but also opens up new opportunities for tourists to explore the country in depth.
With this initiative, Dubai reported a significant uptick in Indian visitors, with 2.46 million overnight tourists recorded from January to December 2023. This figure not only showcases an increase from the 1.84 million visitors in 2022 but also exceeds the pre-pandemic visitation numbers of 1.97 million in 2019. The Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) has highlighted this visa as a pivotal measure to enhance the flexibility and efficiency of travel for both leisure and business purposes.
Bader Ali Habib, the regional head of proximity markets at DET, emphasised the significant role India plays in Dubai's tourism sector, noting the 'outstanding' inbound visitation from India in 2023. This surge in tourists has contributed to a landmark year for Dubai, with the city attracting 17.15 million international overnight visitors, marking a 19.4% increase from the previous year and surpassing the 2019 record of 16.73 million visitors.
The DET has attributed this growth to the robust influx of Indian tourists, who represent the largest number of international visitors from a single market, noting a 34% year-on-year increase. This remarkable performance aligns with the objectives of the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33, aimed at reinforcing Dubai's status as a leading global city for business, investment, and tourism.

The visa underscores the deep-rooted economic and cultural ties between the UAE and India, reflecting centuries of diplomatic cooperation and trade connections.
