Dubai Internet City Celebrates 25 Years As A Leader In The Regional Digital Economy
Dubai Internet City celebrates its 25th anniversary as a key player in the Middle East's digital economy. It serves as a hub for global tech leaders and talent. Established on 29th October 1999 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, it aimed to harness emerging technologies and boost the UAE’s knowledge economy.
In 2023, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed announced that UNESCO would recognise 29th October as World Coding Day, marking Dubai Internet City's unveiling. The city has empowered technologists worldwide to drive socioeconomic change. Its ecosystem includes multinational corporations, start-ups, and Fortune 500 companies, fostering innovation and collaboration among top minds.

Customer numbers at Dubai Internet City increased by over 17.5% in the first nine months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. This growth brought the total to more than 4,000 businesses. Additionally, the tech talent community expanded to over 31,000 professionals, highlighting the city's appeal to global technologists.

Dubai Internet City is home to companies leading innovation in fintech, blockchain, AI, and Web3. It hosts Fortune 500 leaders across software and cloud sectors, social networks, gaming giants, and electronics firms. The ecosystem is bolstered by 19 innovation and R&D centres run by global leaders.
The district's commitment to expanding the digital economy is evident in its customers' successes. It fosters collaboration and knowledge sharing among industry giants to ensure continued growth in the digital economy.
Future Investments
Recent investments exceeding AED1.9 billion have reinforced Dubai Internet City's role in meeting global tech companies' evolving needs. These include acquiring premium office spaces like Office Park and expanding Innovation Hub. Launched in 2018, Phase 1 of Innovation Hub is fully occupied with industry leaders such as Gartner and China Telecom.
Phases 2 and 3 of Innovation Hub will add over 530,000 sq.ft. of premium space with an investment exceeding AED780 million. Phase 2 is already fully leased ahead of its completion in 2025.
