Dubai International Airport Hits New Milestone with 87 Million Guests in 2023
Dubai International (DXB) has achieved a significant milestone in 2023 by welcoming a record 87 million guests, surpassing its own forecasts as well as pre-pandemic levels of traffic. This remarkable achievement underscores DXB's status as the premier airport globally for international passenger traffic. The success of DXB is largely credited to the visionary leadership of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, along with Dubai's exceptional connectivity, aviation capacity, and logistics infrastructure. The airport's commitment to enhancing passenger experience and maintaining its position as a leading global aviation hub is evident in its continuous investments in infrastructure, technology, and customer service.
In 2023, DXB not only achieved its highest internal engagement scores but also announced plans for expansion and refurbishment of facilities to bolster its infrastructure for anticipated future growth. This initiative reflects DXB's dedication to providing unparalleled guest experiences and maintaining its excellence in international aviation. The year saw a 31.7% increase in guest numbers, totaling 86,994,365, which is nearly 1% higher than the figures recorded in 2019. The second half of the year witnessed robust growth, with December emerging as the busiest month and Q3 marking the highest traffic since 2019.

DXB's global connectivity is impressive, with connections to 262 destinations across 104 countries through 102 international carriers. The airport processed a total of 77.5 million bags in 2023, achieving a success rate of 99.8%. Additionally, the average waiting time at departure passport control was less than seven minutes for over 95% of guests, and at security check on departures was less than four minutes for 97.5% of guests. These statistics highlight DXB's efficiency and commitment to guest satisfaction, further evidenced by a score of 4.5 in the Airport Service Quality program.
India emerged as the top destination country from DXB in 2023, followed by KSA and the UK, with London being the top city destination ahead of Riyadh and Mumbai. Despite a slight decrease of 4.5% in cargo volumes compared to the previous year, flight movements reached an all-time high of 416,405, reflecting the increase in guest numbers.
Looking ahead to 2024, DXB is projected to receive 88.8 million guests, approaching its previous record of 89.1 million guests set in 2018. This forecast highlights DXB's ongoing growth trajectory and its pivotal role in global aviation.
